THE Advance Hyperbaric Life-Support Inc. (AHLSI) is the largest and most advanced medical center offering hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) in the Philippines. Located at a home-like facility in Quezon City, the AHLSI provides a sophisticated state-of-the-art technology for the treatment of chronic diseases, such as diving-related sicknesses, nonhealing diabetic wounds, stroke, TBI, sports injuries and carbon-monoxide poisoning, among others.

The AHLSI, headed by Dr. Jose R. Bernardo and Jesus O. Co, is the only medical center across the archipelago with a state-of-the-art walk-in multiplace HBOT chamber, where patients can sit and relax while undergoing hyperbaric therapy.

The HBOT, which originated from the scuba-diving community, involves the breathing of 100-percent medical-grade oxygen in a pressurized chamber. By inhaling this pressurized oxygen, the ambient pressure inside the body increased more than 10 times higher than normal air pressure.

Thus, the HBOT enables the patients lungs and plasma to absorb more oxygen to infiltrate all tissues and cells in the body, which, in turn, enhances activity of white blood cells and immune system to fight infection and other health disorders.

Aside from this, it is also proven to increase growth of stem cells, which are crucial to injury repair. The HBOT, said Dr. Stephen R. Thom of the University of Pennsylvania, is the safest way to clinically augment stem-cell growth in the body, by far safer than pharmaceutical options.

The HBOT is also known for shortening the inflammatory process by oxygenating tissues vital to removing cell debris and preventing infection.

Popular in medically advanced countries, such as the United States, Israel, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, China, Taiwan, Russia and Cuba, the HBOT can effectively treat severe spinal-cord disorders, acute and severe hypoxic brain disorders, multiple sclerosis, fibromyalgia, viral encephalitis and other chronic diseases.

The US Food and Drug Administration recognizes the capability of hyperbaric therapy for the treatment of 14 conditions. However, research conducted by experts globally showed HBOT works at the cellular level to help more conditions, including stroke, chemotherapy-related side effects, epilepsy, cardiac diseases, migraine and vertigo, early dementia, vision loss, emphysema, asthma, rheumatoid arthritis, Parkinsons disease and traumatic brain injury, among others.

The AHLSI is located at 11 Tagdalit Street, Barangay Manresa in Quezon City. For more information, visit the AHLSIs web site at hbotphilippines.com.

The HBOT can also cure brain injuries frequently acquired by soldiers, athletes and victims of car crash.

Even President Duterte is keen on funding military hospitals with HBOT chambers, recognizing the effectiveness of this medical equipment.

In a speech last August, the President said the Armed Forces of the Philippines Medical Center will acquire an HBOT chamber for soldiers needing hyperbaric therapy. He said HBOT is decisive in the treatment of serious injuries and wounds incurred by military men while doing their duty.

Led by Bernardo, a medical doctor and a specialist in hyperbaric medicine; and Co, along with highly motivated and skilled nurses and expert technicians, the AHLSI is ready to treat patients in need of safe and effective hyperbaric therapy that is nonmedicinal and noninvasive.
