17-12-2011 18:25 Healing Center Project RESTORATIVE HEALING AND WELLNESS CENTER The Center will be designed to treat the complex effects of spinal cord injury, including paraplegia and quadriplegia, respiratory disorders, bowel and bladder dysfunction, and spasticity, as well as emotional and psychological issues while transitioning into a new way of life. Each patient will receive treatment from a multidisciplinary rehabilitation team under the direction of a board-certified physician specializing in spinal cord injury treatment. Working collaboratively toward the patient's goals, the team consists of physical, occupational, and speech therapists, rehabilitation nurses, case managers, dieticians, and other committed professionals. The patient's family members will also be encouraged to participate in the recovery process through daily and overnight visits, and patient/family conferences. The goal is to build a Center that will contain a variety of programs and support service spaces that will fulfill a wide range of needs for the suddenly disabled currently unmet by existing regional resources. The size and/or amount of each program and service space is based on the demand for the program or activity, the multi-usefulness of the space, capital costs, and the potential of the program to generate revenue.
