Since 2009, Stretch for Life has been enabling persons with stroke and traumatic brain injury (TBI) to regain feeling and function. The process involves full body stretching, massage, acupressure, strength training coupled with mental focus, breathing and visualization to eliminate spasticity and restore feeling and muscle function. The procedure is effective even years after a stroke or TBI. Once the habitually tight muscles have been coaxed into relaxing, the relaxation is permanent. The process begins as a series of treatments to relax the tight muscles and continues as a relearning to use the atrophied muscles. Lastly, the procedure involves exercises to restore strength and coordination.

"By pretreating a client with perispinally administered etanercept (Enbrel), we vastly speed up the entire process and obtain results that would not be possible without the Enbrel," stated Phillip Koss developer of http://www.strechforlife.com. For example, an individual with stroke who is completely unable to walk and confined to a wheelchair could, after a series of daily treatments over several months, walk with a walker or even crutches. When such an individual is pretreated with perispinally administered Enbrel, the treatment is shortened from several months to a few weeks and the individual may be able to walk entirely unaided.

There is a growing body of evidence linking chronic inflammatory events in the brain with many of the impairments persons with stroke and TBI experience. Enbrel is a drug approved to treat the acute inflammatory processes involved in certain forms of arthritis and psoriasis. Newly published research* finds: "The stroke and TBI induced cerebral ischemia, neurological motor deficits, and increased numbers of microglia-TNF-alpha double positive cells and increased TNF-alpha levels in the injured brain were all significantly attenuated by etanercept therapy." Rolando Hernandez M.D., a neurosurgeon at Neurological Wellness Center, states, "This research elucidates the neurological mechanisms that enable improvements in walking ability, arm movement, speech, mood, and reductions in spasticity that we see in the patients we have treated with perispinally administered Enbrel brand etanercept. The treatment protocol utilized by Neurological Wellness Center was pioneered by Edward Tobinick M.D. in 2006 and described in Expert Reviews of Neurotherapeutics.

"Stroke and TBI result in a self-perpetuating cycle of inflammation in the brain. This excess inflammation persists for years or even decades after the injury. This excess inflammation contributes to a portion of the many impairments our patients experience. Perispinally administered Enbrel reduces this inflammation in the brain, facilitating a recovery of function," stated Rolando Hernandez, M.D.

"These results represent a sea change in the therapeutic possibilities for stroke and TBI patients. Our team observed firsthand, rapid clinical improvement in stroke patients following this brief office treatment," said Dr. Steve Ralph, professor at Griffith University School of Medical Science in Austrailia. Dr. Ralph visited Neurological Wellness Center in Managua, Nicaragua in 2012 where he learned to perform perispinal injections," said Dr. Augusto Ramirez, M.D. of Neurological Wellness Center. Neurological Wellness Center physicians began teaching perispinal injection technique for the drug Enbrel in 2010. Since then physicians, nurses and caregivers from every continent have visited the center. "We have amassed a trove of anecdotal reports confirming the efficacy of perispinally injected Enbrel for the treatment of stroke and TBI," said Dr. Ramirez.

"Perispinal Enbrel as a TBI treatment has many attributes. (1) The therapeutic window is wide. A person whose injury occurred a decade ago or even longer may still benefit. (2) The treatment is short term, yet the benefits are long-lasting. (3) The dosage of Enbrel needed to achieve these results is quite low compared to the FDA recommendations for moderate plaque psoriasis. The FDA protocol for moderate plaque psoriasis calls for 24 injections totaling 1200 mg of Enbrel over a three-month period, followed by weekly injections for life. Whereas a person with moderate to severe stroke or TBI would need a maximum of 4 injections totaling 100 mg of Enbrel in this period and would be unlikely to need even a single booster injection. (4) The recovery - improvements can begin to occur in minutes and can build with subsequent injections over a four- to eight-week period," stated Dr. Hernandez.

Neurological Wellness Center offers a complete two-hour course on stroke treatment and traumatic brain injury treatment covering all aspects of perispinal injection technique at their Neurological Wellness Center in Managua, Nicaragua.

For many, flying to the Neurological Wellness Center in Nicaragua to receive this personalized training is an enormous expense and inconvenience. To overcome this problem, Neurological Wellness Center, under the direction of Augusto Ramirez, M.D., created Perispinal Enbrel Step-By-Step Instructional Video and accompanying e-book. This 24-minute video and 37-page e-book are now available online at http://www.neurological-recovery-guide.com.

Augusto Ramirez, M.D., Director of Neurological Wellness Center, a private medical group in Managua Nicaragua, authorized this press release.
