Chris Wheal couldnt work out why he was feeling so cold.

The 44-year-old was on a cycling trip in Normandy with friends in November 2010 when he suggested stopping at a coffee shop after just an hour simply because he was freezing.

Less well-known signs of stroke include numbness, blurred or loss of vision in one eye, dizziness and trouble balancing

At the time, I thought it was just pins and needles.

'But when we sat down in the cafe I noticed my right hand was icy cold and numb.

'I could pick up my coffee, but couldnt feel my hand as I lifted it, which felt weird.
