A recent study says that diabetes drug Byetta, manufactured by Amylin Pharmaceutical in conjunction with Eli Lilly and Company, could cause damage to the pancreaseven cancer. The UCLA study showed increased evidence of pre-cancerous cellular changes associated with Type 2 diabetes treatments, according to Bloomberg. The increase in changes topped 40 percent. In 2007, two years after Byetta went to market, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said it had received many reports of pancreatitis from Byetta users, the article said. The FDA recently issued a report** indicating it was evaluating the Byetta side effects claims of unpublished research studies.
Rochelle Rottenstein, principal of the Rottenstein Law Group, said that the growing body of evidence*** of Byettas alleged pancreatic side effects means that patients should be vigilant about their rights.
