Alternattiva Demokratika has expressed its solidarity with David Caruana, who is facing criminal charges growing cannabis in his balcony.

In a statement, AD's spokesperson for citizenship Robert Callus said that "the law was absurd because it puts people who are only users of the drug and never had any intention to sell at par with drug dealers".

Callus said that people who have harmed no one are being imprisoned sometimes for ridiculously long periods of time. Daniel Holmes is another case in point as are others with similar experiences."

AD chairperson Micheal Briguglio said that if in Parliament, AD would propose the decriminalization of personal drug use. "The victims of drug addiction and dependency are to be considered as persons in need of help and not as criminals."

According to Briguglio "Decriminalization would also ensure that recreational drug users, including those who cultivate soft drugs for personal use, are not criminalized for their lifestyle."
