Bioinformatics firm SolveBio Seeks to Build Business on Providing Painless Access to Curated Data

Sequenom Chief Medical Officer Allan Bombard plans to retire in June, the company said in a filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission this week. Bombard has served as the firm's CMO since early 2009, and as one of its CLIA/CAP lab directors since 2010.

Keygene's board of directors has appointed Fayaz Khazi as its new CEO, effective May 5. Khazi recently was VP of business analytics and strategy at Intrexon, where he worked since 2007 in various leadership positions focused on the food and agricultural sectors. He also was a Howard Hughes Medical Institute post-doctoral fellow at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and the University of Pennsylvania.

Ryan Taft has joined Illumina as director of scientific research. Taft is laboratory head and senior research fellow at the University of Queensland's Institute for Molecular Bioscience. He holds a BSc in biochemistry and molecular biology from the University of California, Davis. Taft will maintain a joint appointment with UQ while working for Illumina.

Vermillion has tapped its James LaFrance, chairman of the firms' board of directors, to succeed Thomas McLain as president and CEO. LaFrance, who will continue to serve as Vermillion's board chairman, formerly was CEO of Omnyx, and he held executive leadership posts at Ventana Medical Systems and Bayer Diagnostics.
