About Us

The Section of Cardiology at Baylor College of Medicine is nationally and internationally recognized for its outstanding clinical and scientific research programs.

We provide comprehensive care in interventional cardiology, heart failure and cardiac transplantation, electrophysiology, preventive cardiology and general cardiology in three affiliated hospitals: Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center/Texas Heart Institute, Ben Taub Hospital, and Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Affairs Medical Center, as well as in a new state-of-the-art outpatient facility.

Ongoing research efforts in basic science, translational research and clinical trials/outcomes research are focused on developing novel therapeutic strategies that will lead to advances in the treatment of patients with cardiovascular disease.

Our research activities cover a broad range of cardiovascular diseases and conditions, with a long tradition of excellence in basic, translational, and clinical research. The section is nationally recognized for programs of excellence in molecular cardiology, heart failure, cardiac imaging, and interventional cardiology.

Building on the College's legacy of cardiovascular research, the Cardiovascular Research Institute provides state-of-the-art medical care and performs groundbreaking research.

Our faculty train tomorrow's cardiovascular medicine specialists through medical school, graduate student, resident and fellow programs. A fourth year of training is available for certification in cardiovascular subspecialties such as interventional cardiology and clinical cardiac electrophysiology. See our education offerings.

Our clinical faculty provide outstanding care at the Baylor Heart Clinic,Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center/Texas Heart Institute, Ben Taub Hospital, Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Affairs Medical Center, and Hall-Garcia Cardiology Associates, covering the greater Houston area from the north (Humble) to the south (Clear Lake). Our comprehensive, integrated approach to the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular disease is further improved through the close proximity of disciplines and shared technology within Baylor Clinic and our affiliated institutions. The Section of Cardiology in the Department of Medicine is composed of 44 faculty, 22 Baylor fellows, 29 Texas Heart Institute fellows and 25 staff working in the Baylor Heart Clinic, Ben Taub Hospital, the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center.

Our vision is to become national leaders in interventional cardiology, heart failure and cardiac transplantation, electrophysiology, cardiovascular imaging, cardio-oncology, preventive cardiology, vascular medicine and general cardiology through state-of-the-art, evidence-based clinical programs, research, and education.

We are creating centers of excellence in these areas for patients in our clinics and affiliate hospitals through effective and innovative teamwork by our faculty, fellows, staff and administration.
