Treating ALS with stem cell injections: A clinical trial – Video

Posted: Published on November 1st, 2012

Treating ALS with stem cell injections: A clinical trial Dr. Eva Feldman, a neurologist, researcher and director of the A. Alfred Taubman Biomedical Research Institute at the University of Michigan, is the principal investigator for a landmark clinical trial involving patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as ALS or Lou Gehrig's disease. The FDA-approved trial, which currently is in the safety phase, involves injecting hundreds of thousands of stem cells into the spinal cords of patients with ALS. As Dr. Feldman explains in this video, it is hoped that the stem cells will provide a healthier environment for the patients' own nerve cells, preserving function and improving quality of life.From:TaubmanInstituteViews:1785 16ratingsTime:11:32More inScience Technology Read the original post: Treating ALS with stem cell injections: A clinical trial - Video … Continue reading

Stem Cells : How stem cells can be used in the prevention and cure of many illnesses – Video

Posted: Published on November 1st, 2012

Stem Cells : How stem cells can be used in the prevention and cure of many illnesses Have you ever asked why adult stem cells cannot be used in human medicine? Certainly not for ethical reasons as they have nothing to do with embryos, but because it is not possible to experiment with cells different from one another. Up to now the cultured adult stem cells showed different receptors and stem cells obtained by concentration from other tissues were never pure, but contained other cells. TRIALS CANNOT BE DONE WITHOUT QUALIFYING AND QUANTIFYING WHAT IS BEING EXPERIMENTED, THEREFORE ADULT STEM CELLS COULD NOT BE USED IN HUMAN THERAPY! But...... with our patented system we are able to quantify and qualify stem cells. From a few ml. of blood within 72 hours we can obtain pure stem cells that all have the same level of maturity and only stem cell receptors therefore they are a blood derivative eligible for human trials. Yes....., you have understood well! There are no legal restrictions! Moreover the stem cells have no passport (that is they do not possess MHC 1And 2) therefore besides an auto-stemcell transplant it is possible to produce thousands of allogenic stem … Continue reading

Using stem cells to regenerate cartilage

Posted: Published on October 23rd, 2012

A team of Malaysian doctors achieved success and gained international attention by being innovative, passionate and a little bit crazy. ON a quiet weekend in 2011, hand surgeon Dr Ranjit Singh Gill flexed his fingers as he watched a limousine and police outriders pull up to the front entrance of the Kuala Lumpur Sports Medicine Centre (KLSMC). A middle-aged man emerged from the car flanked by bodyguards. Dr Ranjit Singh greeted his patient. The whole group crowded into an elevator which took them to the fifth floor where a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machine awaited. The bodyguards stood sentry outside. My arm has been bothering me, the patient told Dr Ranjit Singh. After he gently flexed his patients arm and studied the MRI scans, he suggested that the patient undergo keyhole surgery and five rounds of stem cell injections. These stem cells would repair the injured area and regenerate the cartilage tissue. The treatment was so simple, it was almost too good to be true. In fact, global experts in the field of orthopaedics are divided over the use of adult stem cells to repair cartilage. Cartilage basically does not heal, Dr Hubert Kim, director of the Cartilage Repair and … Continue reading

Lame dogs brought to heal with stem cells

Posted: Published on July 29th, 2012

Stem cell injections in dogs will become routine in the next two years and will probably cost less than $1000. The first data, collated last week, into the use of the procedure where cultured cells are injected into the joints of dogs with hip dysplasia or canine osteoarthritis has shown a success rate of 96 per cent. The procedure will be made available to veterinary clinics, promoted at dog shows and possibly in a television campaign. It has been transformed in little more than a year with stem cells from one animal used to treat other dogs. Previously, an invasive procedure was necessary, with incisions to remove subcutaneous or fatty tissue from the affected dog and stem cells isolated in a laboratory before being injected back into the dog. The procedure resulted in a culture containing only about 10 per cent to 15 per cent stem cells, while the culture from a donor in a breed with a genetic line clear of arthritis can been screened to provide a culture containing 100 per cent stem cells. The figures were collected from vets by Australian Veterinary Stem Cells, which supplies stem cell treatments and has a partnership with the immunology and … Continue reading
