Eric Cantor is getting outside help in his primary against little-known college professor Dave Brat.

The American Chemistry Council is going up with roughly $300,000 in television advertisements to boost the House majority leader in his June primary against Brat, according to multiple sources familiar with the buy.

The television advertisements begin airing Friday and will run through June 5. The ads will run on cable and broadcast television the total amount is $289,594, according to sources who track advertising. The Republican primary is June 10.

Cantor has been a consistent leader on issues that support economic growth and job creation which are critical to manufacturers, said Anne Kolton, a spokeswoman for the American Chemistry Council. We think its important to highlight strong leadership.

The Richmond, Virginia, area primary between Brat and Cantor is getting a lot of attention. Last weekend, a party activist supported by the tea party defeated Cantor ally Linwood Cobb for district party chairman. Cantor gave a fiery speech at the convention blasting Brat.

Brat has presented Cantor as the embodiment of D.C.s problems, and the majority leader has hit back that Brat is a liberal college professor. The amount of engagement is significant because Cantor is likely the next speaker of the House, and the angst on the right is emblematic of the political problems he could face in coming years.

Cantor, himself, is up with two television advertisements a negative ad against Brat, and a positive one portraying the majority leader as a bulwark against Obamas agenda.
