Experience drivesVandal soccer in 2015

Coming off a 4-14-2 fall season in2014, the Vandal soccer team wentinto the spring looking to improveand further build team chemistry.

Through three games this spring, the Vandals are making steps towardthe continued improvement for theupcoming fall season, which hasalready begun in some ways, Idahocoach Derek Pittman said.

The Vandals will try to continueto improve Tuesday when they travelto Spokane to face Spokane FallsCommunity College.

As the young Vandal squad continuesto grow together, the approachto the spring is different from last semester.

Pittman said he already has asolid core of players in place, primarilycomprised of last years sophomoreclass. The players will be juniors forthe 2015 fall season.

I think a big part of the chemistryhas to do with your players beingbought in, and I truly believe thatthe returning players we have are allbought in, Pittman said.

Among the players who havebought in are two of the centerpiecesof the aforementioned junior classin midfielder Elexis Schlossarek andforward Kavita Battan.

Schlossarek is currently goingthrough her third spring season aftertaking a redshirt season in 2012 andshe said she noticed the teams getsinto more of a routine throughoutthe spring.

After coming in as freshmen inthe fall, players are forced to learn asthey go, but throughout the winterand spring they get to know theirrole on team as well as the differentplayers, she said.
