Stanford Health Care has been ranked #10 best hospital overall by US News and World Report for 2022-2023. A Stanford press release is available.

Of 7 eligible specialties linked to the Department of Medicine, Stanford is ranked in all 6 data-driven specialties (cancer, cardiology and heart surgery, diabetes and endocrinology, GI and GI surgery, geriatrics, pulmonology and lung Surgery) and high-performing in the 7th specialty (rheumatology) that is based only on reputation.

Among 7 procedures/conditions usually performed or managed by Department of Medicine physicians, Stanford was high-performing in six (acute myocardial infarction, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, heart failure, kidney failure, pneumonia, and transcatheter aortic valve replacement). The procedures/conditions are rated solely on performance (with no reputation component). Points are given for higher rankings in both specialties and procedures/conditions. Hospitals are then ranked overall based on total points.

Specialties typically in a department of medicine that are not ranked by US News and World Report include hospital medicine, nephrology, infectious disease, and primary care.

Overall, the Department of Medicine contributed 43% of Stanfords total points.
