ExerciseFriends learned from a study it released in 2013 that when some people lose 10 pounds, it can be the first step in empowering them to change other bad habits. Some members used exercise success as a catalyst to get our of credit card debt, abusive relationships, overcome serious illnesses or fight drug dependency or alcoholism.

The study showed there was no other catalyst that was as strong as losing 5-13 pounds for making positive changes in other parts of their lives. Both scientific studies and member feedback conclusively demonstrated losing weight has a powerful impact on ones will and self image.

Losing those few pounds, for many people found to be impossible with standard diets and gym memberships, is just the catalyst to get them to take control of their lives.

ExerciseFriends.com founder Patrick McCluskey stated: For a few people losing 5 pounds is a belt loop. Yet for many others, it is the first step in making positive changelike getting out of an abusive relationship or a job they hate. So we are extending out attribute searching to areas that touch the whole person, not just for fitness.

The ExerciseFriends.com web site has always enabled people to find others just like themselves to workout, have fun or get fit. Now, it is expanding to enable people with some of these lifes issues to connect and use exercise as a catalyst for change.

Over the next 6 months, ExerciseFriends will add attributes with which people can opt in ranging from alcohol and drug dependency, abusive relationships, debt, various illnesses---all of which have been shown to be positively impacted by exercise and losing weight.

Jay Valentine of ExerciseFriends.com noted: Our first job was to launch the concept that working out with a friend was the key to diet and exercise success. Patrick McCluskey proved that point in a big way. Now our mission is how to help people use exercise as the catalyst, the first big step, in changing many of the ugly parts of their lives---like being bullied, being in a desperate job or getting out of debt.
