June 3 an old fashioned wagon train rolled through Main Street of Baker on their way to the Fallon County Fairgrounds where they would stay for a few days. The five person, four wagon train left Fort Lincoln, ND May 17. They are following the same route Custer drove his regiment on the way to the Battle of the Little Bighorn. Their goal is to arrive June 25 at the Battle of the Little Bighorn reenactment. . .Donovan Lorbiecke of Baker hit a hole in one on hole number three at Lakeview Country Club June 12. . .Fallon County Commissioners called a meeting June 7 with the regular Fallon County Fair food vendors. The purpose of the meeting was to hand out the proposed plans for the new grandstand and invited the vendors to occupy the six concession stands under the grandstand. . .Brady Varner, son of Jeff and Louise Varner, caught a 7 pound, 29 inch Northern Pike in Baker Lake June 13.

Jace Schillinger was chosen as radio station KATLs male athlete of the year. Schillinger, a recent Baker graduate, will be attending Carroll College this fall and playing football. . .Fallon County Attorney John Huntley has given written notice of his resignation. R. W. Heineman of Wibaux has agreed to fill in temporarily. . .After two years and five months of intensive treatment for leukemia, DaNae Wiseman completed her last treatment April 10, 2000 DaNae and her family - parents Dave and Sonia, and brother Seth - were the recipients of a trip to Disney World provided by the Montana Hope Project. . .Askin family reunion will be held June 24. . .Winners of the Father/Son Look Alike Contest are John Geving and son Jerrid - 1st place, Bill Fisher and son Clayton - 2nd place, Kalyn Bohle and son Nicholas - 3rd place. . .Fallon County Day will be held July 4 at the Baker Lake Gazebo. . .Andy Selle, Kirby Nemitz and Rusty Knuths will be at the Montana State High School rodeo in Miles City June 22-25. . .Plevna High School All-Class Reunion will he held July 3. . .Low temperature June 16 was 36 degrees. . .Todd Overton escorted seven young girls to Bozeman June 10 where they played in the fifth and sixth grade division basketball tournament. They won all three games and emerged as regional champs. Members of the team were Dawnette Christensen, Mary Jo Trainer, Kasi Olson, Courtney Barkley, Cheyenne Thilmony, Lacey Heaps, Marnee Overton and Collette Kary. Todd was the coach and Bryan Overton was the manager.

The Fallon County Fair Board has once again lined up spectacular musical entertainment for Saturday and Sunday evenings at the fair. The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band will appear in two concerts Sunday evening, Aug. 19. Saturday nights performance will feature Shelly West. . .Daisy Troop 253 planted flowers in tubs around town. . .Last week Dean Wang became the National Collegiate Steer Wrestling Champ for the West Coast Region at the finals in Bozeman. He is the son of Allan and Ruth Wang and graduated from Baker High School. . .There will be a community farewell potluck for Jim and Susan Russ June 23. . .Whist winners at the Senior Center last Friday evening were Vivian Celander, Gladys Traweek, Pearl Randash, Fred Klos, Eldon Rasmuson and Charlie Abrams. Traveling went to Erna Wenz. . .Landscape timbers at Newell Lumber advertised for $3.95. . .C. B. Heiser, owner of the Corner Bar, was awarded top honors for the most funds raised by any tavern in Montana in the Muscular Dystrophy fundraising campaign. As the top fundraising tavern in Montana, the Corner Bar received a 50 color TV.

Pictured are Gene Wellenstein of the Bank of Baker, donator of the All-Around Cowgirl saddle, along with High School Rodeo Queen Tana LaBree, congratulating Julie Ellis on her winning the saddle at the District 2 High School Rodeo held in Baker. . .Linda Price has been elected an alternate delegate to the Republican National Convention to be held in July in Detroit. . .Boys participating in Boys State June 8-14 in Dillon were Mark Duneman and Scott Townsend of Baker, Mike Brewer of Marmarth and Kenneth Rabe of Plevna. . .Mr. and Mrs. John LaBree will celebrate their 46th wedding anniversary June 22 at the ranch. . .Bostons Berklee College of Music has enrolled Keith W. Schell, son of Mr. and Mrs. Vernard Schell of Plevna, in its freshman class of 1980. . . Herb and Georgetta McCamish will celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary June 22 at the Masonic Hall in Baker. . .Bostons Berklee College of Music has enrolled Keith W. Administrator of the Fallon Memorial Hospital, Margaret Jensen, accepted the certificate of good management from Montana Hospital Association represented by Roland Fischer, who said Fallon Memorial was one of the very few hospitals with this high of standards to receive this award. . .Larry Busch, a retired businessman, died Friday night at his home in Bozeman. . .Kenny and Lois Burghduff have moved to Baker from Belle Fourche. . .The Double or Nothing 4-H Club of Plevna will be sponsoring a rodeo next week at the new arena.

Thursday, June 16, 1960 --

J. K. Munsell took third on a yearling stallion which he showed at the Faith, SD, horse show last week. . .Registration for swimming classes will be this week, announced head lifeguard, Walter Graf. . .Della Fried and Mary Fuchs will be leaving this week to attend the annual Girls State convention to be held at Bozeman at the college campus. . .The original Catholic Church of Baker has been torn down to make room for the erection of a new building. . .Sheldon Rediske was one of 27 boys and men leaders to attend the training course held over the weekend at Billings for the Boy Scout Jamboree troops. He was selected as quartermaster for Troop 70.

The community had a rare treat last Sunday in the Montana Palomino Exhibitors Assn. horse show at the fairgrounds. A parade was held Saturday evening. . .Dr. S. A. Weeks and son Sam and Garry Morrow, son of Mr. and Mrs. Don Morrow, will leave for Valley Forge, PA, to attend the Boy Scout Jamboree for a week. Dr. Weeks, assisted by four other doctors, will be in charge of his professional capacity. . . Joe Weinschrott took over a week ago as manager of the Baker Penney Store, replacing Dale Brown who is now in charge of the Hettinger store.

The Miles City Soap Box Derby takes place next Sunday at 2 p.m. and the winners of the Baker Soap Box Derby, Richard Biffle and Robert Holms, will take part in it. . .For the first time in Montanas history, women held places Monday on a Federal Grand Jury. . .Odin Myhre, who was a director of the Glendive Production Credit Association, left Monday morning for Spokane where he will attend a regional meeting of the Production Credit Corporation which is being held in the Washington city. . .Miss Vaughn Munsell has taken on part time work at the telephone office for the summer. . .Mrs. R. E. Morris was pleasantly surprised Tuesday when Chan Sorenson, local manager of the Midland Lumber Co., informed her that she had written the prize winning letter in the Plax paint contest and would receive the prize.

Baker people will be interested in the news received here Wednesday that Atwood Cranston, until January associated with Al Hanson in his law office here, has been nominated as a candidate from the 34th district in Hennepin County to the Minnesota State Legislature. . .Stanton Rakes is at his farm home suffering from several broken ribs and possible other injuries as a result of a runaway late Wednesday. . .The Baker tourist camp was made even more attractive to travelers this year by the construction of three new cabins which were completed last week. One large cabin houses three apartments which are at the disposal of tourists for a very nominal fee. . .Six 4-H club delegates, five club-members and one local leader left Baker Sunday afternoon to attend the first state 4-H club convention which is being held at the State College in Bozeman. . .In honor of Mr. and Mrs. C. J. Dousman, who have just recently observed their 20th wedding anniversary, a number of their friends gathered at the Dousman home Thursday evening to celebrate with them the occasion.

A very serviceable drinking fountain is being installed at the courthouse this week by R. D. Grant. . .Mrs. Louis Granum entertained at a nine oclock breakfast Monday morning for Mrs. T. E. Ross of Great Falls who is vice president for the Rebekah Assembly for the state. . .The latest county to be formed in the state is declared to be Daniels, of which Scobey is the new county seat. . .Prices of potatoes sold in Chicago recently at $11 and $12 a hundred weight, which figures about $7.20 a bushel. . .Manager Lake of the Lake Theater has just completed the installation of a motor driven fan for his ventilating system and the ventilation of his theater is now 100 percent perfect. . .Baker baseball team traveled to Terry last Sunday to play their first big game of the season. Everything came up to expectations, a hard fought game, a close score, and a victory for Baker.
