PANJIM: In a major boost to the wellness of hearts in the State, the government has decided to add a ward to the Cardiology Department of the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC).

Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said the government has taken a decision to provide additional human resources and infrastructure to the existing Cardio-thoracic Department of the GMC.

He said, I have moved a file to recruit three more doctors for the Cardiology Department. This will help in the functioning of the department 24x7 and enable to perform more angioplasty and angiography. We will add one more ward to the department so that more patients can be accommodated and treated.

The Centre for Cardiovascular and Thoracic Sciences (CCTS) was established in the GMC in February 2013 and since then an estimated 9000 procedures have been conducted.

Stating that the mission of saving lives will be further successful, he said that cardiac ambulances will be added to the fleet of existing ambulance service of 108.

Stemi India along with the cardiology team of GMC and the 108 ambulance services will be integrated and thrombolyse the patient at the spot and provide treatment at the nearest PHC. This will help in reaching out to more patients during the window period, he stated.
