Diagnosed with early stage breast cancer at age 42, Taami Bash of Highlands Ranch was in the midst of raising three 8-year-old daughters when she received the news. She turned to her fitness community to get her through the next year of treatment. This weekend, September 28-29, Taami will participate in the Muscular Dystrophy Association Rocky Mountains 30 Days of Strength campaign as part of the Orangetheory DRI TRI Challenge.

Orangetheory studios are encouraging members to celebrate the power of will by creating their own I Will statements to raise money and push their limits during the event to power life-changing breakthroughs for those struggling with an illness or disease.

The studio really came alongside me during my illness, says Bash, who credits being physically fit to her speedy recovery. I had been going into the studio two to three times a week when I was diagnosed. Having the support of the Orangetheory community contributed to helping me get through treatments and recover faster.

Taami is now a coach at the Orangetheory Fitness studio in Highlands Ranch and uses her experience with cancer to help those she trains in her classes. I will encourage members who are struggling with similar diagnoses to give them a place where they can find support and ways to overcome their individual life challenges, she explains.

The DRI TRI Challenge is designed as a challenge for members of all abilities to push themselves to new levels, providing a measurable goal to gauge their progress and performance, with the added motivation of a little friendly competition and support of a good cause. Members can choose from one of the following challenges:

A 2000m Row, 300 Reps of bodyweight exercises and a 5k Run or 1.5mile Walk. A Sprint consisting of a 1000m Row, 150 Reps and a 2.5k Run. A Team Relay event, where teams of 3 work together to complete the challenge.

Along with Taami and the Highlands Ranch studio, Orangetheory Fitness studios and franchisees in the Denver Metro and Front Range have collectively committed to giving back to the community as part of the corporations More Life Initiative. Furthering their mission to have a positive impact in the community and among its members, Franchisees provide opportunities to participate in events like the DRI TRI to raise money for area charitable organizations, foundations, and nonprofits.
