JERUDONG, BRUNEI-MUARA: The School Based Committee for Chemistry of the MoE today visited Jerudong International School to meet with the JIS Chemistry teachers, visit lessons and tour the Chemistry laboratories. The Committee headed by Hjh Rosinah Hj Sabli were pleased to have the opportunity to share ideas and discuss topics of mutual interest.

Mr Barnaby Sandow, Acting Principal at JIS, commented on how delighted JIS was to welcome the group and he added that he hoped this would be the first of many visits and the start of ongoing collaboration.

More than fifty teachers from Maktab Sains, SM Menglait, SM SMJA, Mentiri, Tutong (to mention just a few of the many schools represented) were welcomed by Mr Ken Hill, Head of Science. Mr Hill commended the guests for spending the time at JIS on their day off.

After the welcome and exchange of mementos, the visitors then attended a carousel of Year 12 and Year 13 A Level Chemistry lessons where students were carrying out a range of experiments. Mr Jonathan Barton, the senior Laboratory technician was quizzed about how he managed to run the twenty six Science laboratories in JIS with his team of technicians.

One of the visiting teachers was a JIS graduate and was delighted to be able to see her previous Chemistry teacher Dr Nigel Baldwin still teaching at JIS. The student has now become a Chemistry teacher herself.

Looking forward, JIS hopes to work with the School Based Committee for Chemistry in holding joint workshops where best practice in Chemistry can be shared.

Workshops for younger students, Years 7-11 have also been suggested. BRUDIRECT.COM
