Royal commentator Katie Nicholl explained in the new royal documentary, William and Kate: Too Good to Be True?, the difficulties Kate faced while dating Prince William. Ms Nicholl explained the future Duchess of Cambridge faced criticism and intense scrutiny on whether she was a fit partner for Prince William. The documentary narrator began: "William's statement to the press did not stop the criticism of Kate.
"Her suitability as a royal bride was questioned and she was mocked for waiting around for a proposal."
Ms Nicholl said: "The problem for Kate was that she did not have a career plan.
"William's career path had already been mapped out.
"He was going to go to Sandhurst and after that, he was going to go into the RAF.

"Kate's career path was far less certain and she did become the topic of a lot of negative stories.
"She was even called waity-Katie."
Royal commentator Rebecca English also reflected on the difficulties facing Kate in the early days of her career.
Ms English said: "Kate did get a job and she worked as an accessories buyer.
"Interestingly, someone from the firm told me at the time she went to the boss and said I need a job but it needs to be part-time.
"This is so I can work it around my relationship with this very high-profile man.
"Now that is quite unusual for a modern working woman."
Ms English also explained how Kate was unable to keep this job and the constant attention from the paparazzi played a role.

Ms English said: "She did that job for a while but unfortunately, the attention of photographers following her to and from work got too much.
"In the end, she went to go work for her parents.
"This was a family firm Party Pieces, where she was more protected."
