Man gets 1 year for selling fake erectile dysfunction pills

A Canoga Park man charged with selling fake erectile dysfunction pills on Craigslist was sentenced to a year and a day in federal prison, authorities said Tuesday.

The case against Barry Ronnel Johnson, 38, began in March 2011 after customs officers at Los Angeles International Airport intercepted a package with more than 1,700 counterfeit pills. The shipment was bound for Johnson's home, according to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

Johnson was charged with selling 30 blue labeled "Filagra" to a Homeland Security undercover agent posing as a buyer on Craigslist.

Johnson pleaded guilty in March to one count of trafficking and importing counterfeit goods. He was also ordered to serve a year of home detention after his release from prison.

"This sentence should serve as a stern warning for those selling counterfeit pharmaceuticals over the Internet," said Claude Arnold, special agent in charge of Homeland Security investigations in Los Angeles.
