Matthew Gibson will take over as the CEO of Siskin Hospital for Physical Rehabilitation in January, replacing current CEO Carol Sim, who announced her retirement in October.

Gibson brings more than 15 years of health care experience to his new position. Most recently, Gibson was the senior vice president and chief strategy officer at Erlanger Health System, where he focused on leading strategy, business development, innovation, mergers and acquisitions.

"Matt's experience, character and intellect will ably lead Siskin Hospital into its next phase of growth and service to this region," Sim said in a news release Thursday.

While at Erlanger, Gibson developed and implemented a comprehensive primary care access strategy, which resulted in several new regional primary care clinics and six urgent care centers within the last 18 months, along with the market's first virtual primary care program. Gibson also oversaw the creation of the first health care tech accelerator in Tennessee in partnership with Unum and CoLab, as well as developed an enterprise-wide strategic plan.

"We are delighted to welcome Matt Gibson as the new CEO of Siskin Hospital for Rehabilitation," said Trudy Harper, Siskin Hospital board chairwoman. "Matt has significant leadership experience and a passion for health care, and his focus on strategic planning and corporate development make him an excellent choice to lead Siskin Hospital. We believe Matt is prepared to maintain and expand the impact Siskin Hospital has on our community through our critical mission of providing excellent care to our patients."

Siskin Hospital for Physical Rehabilitation is Tennessee's largest acute rehabilitation provider, focusing exclusively on physical rehabilitation. Siskin offers specialized treatment programs in brain injury, amputation, stroke, spinal cord injury, orthopedics and major multiple trauma.

Gibson is a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives and holds a doctorate from the University of Mississippi Medical Center. He also received a master of business administration and a master in health administration from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
