NORWOOD, Ohio

A 13-year-old with cerebral palsy has been found safe after being reported missing in Norwood, police said.

Andrew Spencer was last seen around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at Norwood Middle School, where he was participating in an after-school program, his mother, Sarah Spencer, said. Andrew has cerebral palsy and wears leg braces.

His parents said they grew increasingly worried when he did not return home Tuesday night.

Family members said the young teen did not show up to school Wednesday morning.

He was found safe around 11 a.m. Wednesday, police said.

"He cried and just gave us big hugs," Sarah Spencer said. "Just relieved and happy that hes found and safe. Just relieved.Officials said, railroad worker, Andy Combs, found the boy in the woods by the tracks in the 3000 block of Harris Road in Norwood.

Police and rail workers had been scouring the area for hours after friends told police he liked the woods.

"It always amazes me the support of the people in Norwood," Norwood police Lt. Ron Murphy said. "There were people looking all night for him. There were people looking this morning when our officers were out."

Andrew was taken to Childrens Hospital for evaluation."Theyre trying to warm up his body temperature," Sarah Spencer said. "When he came in, his body temperature was pretty low, so theyre just warming him with warm blankets, and his feet are a little water logged. But they say his muscles dont show any signs of hypothermia."

Sarah Spencer said once the boy is warmed up, he would be allowed to go home.
