Mitchell High School in Trinity will be in session Thursday despite a chemistry lab fire Wednesday night.

Some classrooms will not be used today as teachers utilize a modified campus.

Firefighters responded to the call, which came in at 7:28 p.m. When they arrived, they found the fire in the science and technology building on the school's campus, which is located at 2323 Little Road.

Crews had the fire knocked down about 15 minutes after they arrived. Officials said the fire was contained to a chemistry lab, but smoke did get into about a dozen classrooms. The lab was heavily damaged.

The rooms were aired out overnight.

No one was in the lab at the time of the fire and so far, investigators have not determined how the fire started, or if any chemicals or student projects in the lab are to blame. There were no injuries.

School officials have not released a damage estimate as of yet. There is no word when repairs will be made.
