In the United States 11% of people between 20 and 40 have CVD, while 37% between 40 and 60, 71% of people between 60 and 80, and 85% of people over 80 have CVD.[1] The average age of death from coronary artery disease in the developed world is around 80 while it is around 68 in the developing world.[9] Disease onset is typically seven to ten years earlier in men as compared to women.[11] no data less than 70 70140 140210 210280 280350 350420 420490 490560 560630 630700 700770 more than 770 There are many cardiovascular diseases involving the blood vessels. AnginaAngina manifests as pain in the chest that results from reduced blood supply to the heart (ischemia). Blood carries oxygen around your body and depriving the heart of oxygen has serious consequences.Angina is caused by atherosclerosis, that is the narrowing and / or blockage of the blood vessels that supply the heart. The typical pain of angina is in the chest but it can often radiate to the left arm, shoulder or jaw. If you have angina you will have noticed that the pain is related to exertion and is relieved by rest.An angina attack is also associated with shortness of breath and sweating Continue reading

ECGs in Acute Myocardial Infarction – ACLS Medical Training

Posted: Published on December 25th, 2018

Diagnosing an acute myocardial infarction by ECG is an important skill for healthcare professionals, mostly because of the stakes involved for the patient. One of the complications with using ECG for myocardial infarction diagnosis is that it is sometimes difficult to determine which changes are new and which are old. For the purposes of this learning module, we will assume that all changes are new for the patient and thus represent an acute myocardial infarction. Continue reading

Abstract VOL: 99, ISSUE: 04, PAGE NO: 28 Julia Hubbard, MSc, BSc, PGDE, DipN, RGN, is adult branch leader, School of Nursing and Midwifery, University of East Anglia For most people this occurs suddenly and is due to the rupture of an atheromatous plaque and the formation of a thrombus within the coronary circulation. Less common causes of MI include vasospasm of a coronary artery, which causes temporary occlusion of the artery lumen, or a sudden increase in oxygen demand such as a sustained rapid cardiac dysrhythmia (Julian et al, 1998). Often, this blockage leads to arrhythmias (irregular heartbeat or rhythm) that can cause a severe decrease in the pumping function of the heart and may bring about sudden death. If the blockage is not treated within a few hours, the affected heart muscle will die and be replaced by scar tissue. Continue reading
