Dr. Cannnady’s eczema diagnosis and treatment – Sedalia Democrat

Posted: Published on July 1st, 2017

Dr. Julian E. Canaday of Sedalia was a man of many interests. He produced a set of correspondence courses on horticulture, owned State Fair Floral Company on South Ohio Avenue, maintained several greenhouses at the corner of 16th Street and Limit Avenue, and owned the State Fair Floral Service Station, whose lot was lavishly planted with flowers. He was also a doctor specializing in the treatment of eczema. The greenhouses and service station are gone, but State Fair Floral Company on South Ohio Avenue and the chimney that served the greenhouses, now at the State Fair Shopping Center, remain. The secret of his treatment for eczema is lost, but a book he wrote called Whys and Wherefores of Eczema is in the collection of the Pettis County Museum. The book provides an interesting look at what doctors knew and didnt know about skin diseases in the early twentieth century. Cannaday begins with a definition of eczema and the causes of the disease. He describes it as a catarrhal inflammation of the skin. Catarrh was a term used in the 19th and early 20th centuries to refer to a buildup of mucus in the nose, throat and sinus cavities. The word … Continue reading

As the first top-of-the-line professional rehabilitation facility that is the result of a collaboration between China and Sweden, as well as the University of Southern California's only overseas training and teaching facility for rehabilitation and nursing, the Beijing Intech Rehabilitation & Nursing Center recently opened an international assistance hotline +86-184-0146-2910 for cerebral palsy patients and their families in Russia. Russia was chosen as the first country for the hotline service due to the friendly nature of the relations between China and Russia, and, in support of the One Belt, One Road initiative, the Chinese government's initiative to revitalize and foster economic and trade ties with the countries that lie across the Euro-Asian landmass. Opening the international assistance hotline demonstrates the hospital's confidence in its excellent medical rehabilitation technologies, including the one-stop combination rehabilitation system, which consists of a 3D motion capture diagnosis facility, biologically-based neural activation technology, traceless correction technology and the system's rehabilitation training program. Based on the unique pathological condition of each patient, the system will prescribe a specific combination of the available technologies, delivering a recommendation for treatment the total is more than the sum of its parts. Mother’s love nurtures sick child to Harvard – Shanghai Daily (subscription)

Posted: Published on July 1st, 2017

ENGLISH poet George Herbert once said, One good mother is worth a hundred schoolmasters. In the case of Ding Zheng, who was born with cerebral palsy in central Chinas Hubei Province and is studying law at Harvard University, his mother Zou Hongyan is worth a thousand schoolmasters and more. There is little value in rescuing the baby. He will become mentally disabled or paralyzed. I suggest you give up, a doctor at Jingzhou District Hospital told Zou and her family on July 21, 1988. Zou was shocked. We shall give up the baby. He will make our whole life miserable, her husband said. His rational words hurt Zou deeply. On the fourth day after giving birth, Zou managed to go to the intensive care unit where her baby was, only to find him especially quiet, neither crying nor even frowning after a nurse gave him injections of medicine. The 25-year-old mother had suffered enough to give birth to the child. She had been carried home several times by her students after fainting during her pregnancy while teaching; she had forced herself out of the habit of sleeping late, and into one of reading poems for antenatal training in the early … Continue reading

United Cerebral Palsy Expected To Take Over WTBR Management – iBerkshires.com

Posted: Published on July 1st, 2017

PITTSFIELD, Mass. Taconic High School's radio station, WTBR, is expected to be under new management within the next year. The station's license is owned by Pittsfield Public Schools and operates out of Taconic. But the new building does not include space for it and the tower will have to be removed. For years school administrators have been trying to figure out what to do with the state. Superintendent Jason McCandless said on Wednesday that he is working on a management agreement with United Cerebral Palsy of Berkshire County, which uses the Taconic tower to simultaneously broadcast the Berkshire Talking Chronicle, to take over operations. The school will still retain ownership of the license, but UCP will manage the station and a new studio will be built in the Clocktower Building on South Church Street. "We are hopeful that by the middle of the school year next year we are ready to begin executing that agreement. That's driven by the practicality that there is some equipment we have to move over the remaining four or five months," McCandless said. McCandless envisions the station becoming much more of a community station than it is now. There are few shows on WTBR, but … Continue reading

EDT June 28, 2017 Gatlin McPherson, a junior at the University of Tennessee, is living with cerebral palsy and cannot communicate clearly after his communication device recently broke. Hes really a bright mind and nobody knows it because he cant express himself, said his caretaker and best friend Ashytnn Gilmore, also a UT student. Ashytnn is raising money for Gatlin to get a new Tobii device to be able to communicate quicker and more efficiently with people. "We go out and have fun but he can only talk maybe two words per minute and he can't really keep anyone's attention, so hopefully getting his computer is going to help that," Ashytnn said. The device would also help Gatlin's studies, especially inside the classroom. "It's been a lot of fun communicating and talking to him but it has been slow as well since his device broke," saidGatlin's musicology professor Sean McCollough. "I have to imagine without the device, he has to think really hard about whether or not he wants to come up and ask me a question." … Continue reading

Staff may lose jobs as brain injury rehab unit shuts – This Is Wiltshire

Posted: Published on July 1st, 2017

A TOTAL of 39 jobs are at risk of redundancy as Swindons only brain injury rehabilitation centre is set to close. Chalkdown House, which is based in Edison Park, was first opened in 2013 by Princess Anne as a multi-million pound state-of-the-art hospital that caters for up to 20 people needing specialist brain injury and mental health treatment. But in the four years that have followed, dwindling admission numbers, struggles to recruit staff as well as financial losses have left the trust in charge with no choice but to close the centre at the end of August amid fears of its long-term sustainability. The Brain Injury Rehabilitation Trust (BIRT), part of The Disabilities Trust, confirmed that despite the staff facing losting their jobs, they are currently consulting with them about redeployment opportunities within the wider organisation at other locations across the country or with local employers. The five people currently undergoing rehabilitation at the centre will be moved to other placements by the NHS organisations funding their care - although that could be anywhere in England. The families of people at the centre have also been informed, along with the funders, about the most sensitive and appropriate way to tell … Continue reading
