The Anatomy of Anthony Bourdain's Lovers – Inquirer.net

Posted: Published on February 25th, 2017

Anthony Bourdain has reached the point of popularity wherepeople meddle with his personal life. I mean, its not just the food and his commentaries anymore. People like to know and dig deeper. Last year, when Anthony split up with his wife Ottavia after 10 years, people were affected. Especially to find out that the reason behind it was because they just made different choices in lifeOttavia her MMA career and Anthony with his life as a chef, TV show host, and an author. This time around people are talking about the new woman in Anthony Bourdains lifeAsia Argentowhom he met when he shot last seasons Parts Unknown. Asia toured Anthony on the outskirts of Rome where they visited her local grocery store and ate lots of pasta. And I guess in between takes, they fell in love. It got us curious though, what is Anthony Bourdains type in women? His ex-wife Ottavia lived in a small town in Lombardy, Italy while his new girl Asia was born in the city of Rome. Italian women are known to consume copious amounts of carbs and still look good (ha, I wish I lived their lives) and they are also known to be … Continue reading

Local resident embraces Hyperbarics of Sun Valley oxygen therapy to help treat Parkinson’s Disease – KMVT

Posted: Published on February 24th, 2017

HAILEY, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) - Hyperbarics of Sun Valley opened in 2012 and the treatment facility is growing in popularity to help a number of conditions. The very first time I came in it gave me some mental clarity where I havent had brain fog issues since I came in, so thats been huge. With the Parkinsons I shake on my right side and my shoulder predominantly stiff and pitched forward. Its released the inflammation in my shoulder where I have almost natural range of motion, said Dan Gearhart, a local resident. Hyperbaric oxygen helps dissolve oxygen into the body so we can super oxygenate the tissue which helps shut down the inflammatory process, one treatment can double your stem cell production and boost your immune system at the same time. So those processes will help with just about any condition out there, said Phil Rainey, owner of Hyperbarics of Sun Valley. Hyperberics of Sun Valley is currently seeking non-profit status so it can help more people. A service there costs $200 where in the hospital it can be $2000. You either go in there by yourself or with some other people and you watch a movie in there or take … Continue reading

Nuclear neurology could launch revolution in diagnosing, treating … – University at Buffalo Reporter

Posted: Published on February 24th, 2017

When applied to the brain, nuclear medicine techniques reveal critical information about the progression of the most devastating diseases, from Alzheimers to traumatic brain injury. Just last week, Nature published research showing that brain imaging might be able to help diagnose autism in infants as young as 6 months old, an advance that would represent extraordinary progress in more effectively treating the disease. Such advances dont surprise Robert S. Miletich, interim chair and professor of the Department of Nuclear Medicine at the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, who is studying brain scans obtained from 16,000 patients. He says the wealth of information nuclear imaging techniques provide could pave the way toward a dramatic improvement in the clinical detection and treatment of many brain disorders. I predict that nuclear neurology is going to become as important to neuroscience as nuclear cardiology has been to cardiology, Miletich says. The field of nuclear neurology, also called neuromolecular imaging, provides physiologic imaging of the brain and spinal cord, he explains. By doing measurements on physiologic processes in all parts of the brain, we increase our diagnostic accuracy of brain disorders. Understanding these processes can also help us unravel the mystery of complex … Continue reading

NYU Study Uses Remote tDCS for Fatigue in MS Patients – The … – The Atlantic

Posted: Published on February 24th, 2017

Laura Bennett, a 59-year-old pediatrician in Long Island, was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1997, but her symptoms consisted mostly of numbness and tingling until about six years ago. Thats when she started to have trouble walking. She went from using a cane, to a walker, to a scooter. Her knee became so stiff that flexing it was like trying to bend a lead pipe, she said. These days, she can only leave her home with help or in a wheelchair. The MS also left her with debilitating fatigue. Two years ago, her neurologist asked her if shed consider something a little unorthodox: Zapping her brain with an electrical current, from the comfort of her own home. The treatment was part of a study performed by Leigh Charvet, a neurologist at New York Universitys Langone Medical Center. It was meant to see if transcranial direct current stimulation, a brain treatment also known as tDCS, could be used remotely to relieve the brain fog and oppressive fatigue that many MS patients suffer. Each day for two weeks, Bennett would don a headband equipped with moistened sponges and attached to what she called a big cellphonea tDCS stimulator. When she was ready … Continue reading

Trump’s China ambassador vows to make beef trade and biotechnology priorities – Agri-Pulse

Posted: Published on February 23rd, 2017

WASHINGTON, Feb. 23, 2017 Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad, President Trumps choice to be the next U.S. ambassador to China, said today that if confirmed he will make it a priority to get China to lift its ban on U.S. beef and reform its biotechnology approval process. Branstad spoke at USDAs annual Agricultural Outlook Forum before a scheduled meeting at the Chinese embassy in Washington, We soon hope to reopen the market for American beef, Branstad said. I want to serve it at the (U.S.) embassy and I certainly want to do what I can to convince the Chinese leadership to do that sooner than later. It was in September last year that China announced it was going to lift its 14-year-old ban on U.S. beef, but there have been no signs since then that the country was actually following through with that promise. China was just one of many countries that banned U.S. beef in 2003 after theU.S. discovered its first case of bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE).Since then most countries have lifted those bans, and in 2013 the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) announced that it was placing the U.S. into the negligible, or lowest risk category, for BSE, … Continue reading

Blind sisters gain new vision from biology professor – KING5.com

Posted: Published on February 23rd, 2017

Teacher helps blind sisters 'see' science Marvin Hurst, KENS 1:58 PM. PST February 22, 2017 SAN ANTONIO - Graciously seeking acceptance as normal college students is a box Katy and Olivia Shaw are trying to check. Yet, their navigation in the classroom and through everyday life yields the inquiry they've heard a million times: 'How does it feel to be blind?' "We do everything we can when it comes to living everyday life," Olivia said. The 19-year-olds said being visually impaired is the only normality they've known. They are both living with a disease affecting their vision called retinopathy. The sisters were diagnosed after being born prematurely. Katy is blind in her right eye and the teenager has some vision in her left eye which makes reading large print possible. Seeing is more challenging for Olivia. She has some light perception and some colors are visible to her. However, this hasn't stopped the Shaw sisters from doing chores at home, cooking and even earning academic fortitude. Katy has a 3.9 grade point average and Olivia has a 4.0. The sisters are both dual credit students at Northwest Vista College. "Definitely having this impairment has made it somewhat challenging," Katy said. … Continue reading

'Grey's Anatomy' recap: 'Back Where You Belong' – EW.com

Posted: Published on February 23rd, 2017

The band is back together again! Not quite, Maggie, but youve got the right idea. Amelia, whos back at Casa de Meredith for who knows how long, insists that shes not back, shes just sleeping there (a.k.a. shes still just hiding from Owen). But the good news is that after being sidelined from last weeks episode, Alex is officially free of his legal troubles and ready to get back to work. Unfortunately, we cant say the same for Meredith since shes still suspended from the hospital for butting heads with Bailey. Still, the show must go on. At the hospital, Eliza has come to the conclusion that, following last weeks mishap in the OR, maybe the residents arent exactly ready for phase two of her master plan. So shes taking things easy this week and pairing the residents up with attendings, and Stephanie and Jo are with Alex. Speaking of Alex, he begins his first day back by dealing with a little family drama: His procedure of the day is a mother-to-son kidney transplant with Cynthia (mother) and Chris (son), but things get off to a rocky start when Chris father shows up to the hospital uninvited as the two … Continue reading
