Stem Cell Therapy || Multiple Sclerosis Stem Cell Treatment …

Multiple Sclerosis At present there are no treatments that specifically target the abnormal immune responses in MS. Current approaches, such as interferon, copaxone, or immune suppressants all act in a nonspecific manner blocking immune responses against the myelin sheath. While these approaches are useful for reducing the severity of disease, they do not repair the damage to nervous system tissue that has already occurred and therefore they cannot cure multiple sclerosis. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), have immune regulatory properties which may stop the immune system from attacking the myelin sheath. Mesenchymal stem cells may also potentially help remyelination (re-generation of the myelin sheath) of the affected neurons. Currently, the University of Cambridge is conducting formal clinical studies using mesenchymal stem cells for treatment of MS. VIDEO Professor Arnold Caplan The father of mesenchymal stem cells from Case Western Reserve University discusses stem cell therapy for MS. The adult stem cells used to treat MS at the Stem Cell Institute are called allogeneic mesenchymal stem cells. They are harvested from human umbilical cords donated after normal, healthy births. Each mother is tested for infectious diseases and has her medical history screened. Proper consent is received from each family prior to donation. … Continue reading

Disabled World – Disability News & Information

Posted: Published on January 20th, 2017

The primary focus of the Disabled World web site is to provide up to date information via our informative articles, disability news and educational videos. In addition to stories by our in-house writers and news items by disability organizations and Government Departments, each day we manually select relevant items that we consider will be of interest to persons with disabilities, carers, and the general public. Submission of disability related information, press releases and events are welcome. The word "disabled" is defined as having a physical or mental disability : unable to perform one or more natural activities (such as walking or seeing) because of illness, injury, etc. The word disabled came to be used as the standard term in referring to people with physical or mental disabilities in the second half of the 20th century - and it remains the most generally accepted term in both British and US English. Lately, "Disability" and "Disabled" are terms that are undergoing change due to the disability rights movement in the U.S. and U.K. - Disability or Disabled - Which Term is Right? Charity Watchlist – Get Involved | American Life League

The list of charitable research organizations and their corresponding positions on the life issues posted to our website is neither all pro-life nor all anti-life; it is mixed. Unfortunately, most of the organizations on our list are marked with the red minus sign. It is simply just a sad fact that most national medical research/advocacy groups support some form of unethical research. There is no listing, to our knowledge, of only pro-life research organizations. A green positive/plus sign indicates that ALL considers the organization worthy of support from pro-lifers. ALL considers an organization to be pro-life if it is opposed to abortion, human embryonic stem cell and/or aborted fetal body parts research, all forms of cloning and other attacks against the human person at any stage of development as well as Planned Parenthood Federation and other pro-abortion organizations. A red negative/minus signs indicates that ALL does not consider the organization worthy of support from pro-lifers. If the organization supports, in any way (theory, advocacy, lobbying, granting and/or research) any offenses to life, it is not considered pro-life. Further, if any organization refuses to answer our inquiries, refuses to be clear about its position and/or attempts to couch its answer in … Continue reading

European Bioinformatics Institute – Wikipedia

Posted: Published on January 18th, 2017

The European Bioinformatics Institute (EMBL-EBI) is a centre for research and services in bioinformatics, and is part of European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL). The roots of the EMBL-EBI lie in the EMBL Nucleotide Sequence Data Library[3][4] (now known as EMBL-Bank), which was established in 1980 at the EMBL laboratories in Heidelberg, Germany and was the world's first nucleotide sequence database.[5] The original goal was to establish a central computer database of DNA sequences, to supplement sequences submitted to journals. What began as a modest task of abstracting information from literature soon became a major database activity with direct electronic submissions of data and the need for highly skilled informatics staff. The task grew in scale with the start of the genome projects, and grew in visibility as the data became relevant to research in the commercial sector. It soon became apparent that the EMBL Nucleotide Sequence Data Library needed better financial security to ensure its long-term viability and to cope with the sheer scale of the task. There was also a need for research and development to provide services, to collaborate with global partners to support the project, and to provide assistance to industry. To this end, in 1992, the … Continue reading

Homeopathic remedies and homeopathy treatment for Ulcerative Colitis. Ulcerative colitis is an inflammatory disorder of the colonic mucosa characterized by relapses and remissions. The rectal mucosa is always involved, occasionally by microscopic inflammation alone, and the disease extends proximally. Autoimmune factor Even though exact mechanism of ulcerative colitis is not clear, there are some factors which may point out at autoimmune reaction. Dysfunctional immunoregulation In the intestinal wall results in inappropriate production of cytokines. This creates an imbalance between various interleukins resulting in inflammatory changes. Psychosomatic and personality factor Ulcerative colitis is more common in western women. Emotional stress, family stress, stress from divorce are the contributing factors. Dietary factors Westernization of the diet which is rich in red meat has been blamed. Vegetarian diet is supposed to protect the colons mucosa. Allergy to milk protein is responsible for ulcerative colitis in few patients. Defective mucin production Defective mucin production and a defective mucosal immunological reaction is considered as a chief factor responsible for ulcerative colitis. Onset is usually gradual. Bloody diarrhoea is the hallmark of the disease, though proctitis may present with rectal bleeding and constipation. Urgency and crampy abdominal discomfort before defecation.
