Posted: Published on August 18th, 2016

If you've received a diagnosis of Parkinson's disease, you'll need to work closely with your doctor to find a treatment plan that offers you the greatest relief from symptoms with the fewest side effects. Certain lifestyle changes may also help make living with Parkinson's disease easier. While there's no food or combination of foods proven to help in Parkinson's disease, some foods may help ease some of the symptoms. For example, eating foods high in fiber and drinking an adequate amount of fluids can help prevent constipation that is common in Parkinson's disease. A balanced diet also provides nutrients, such as omega-3 fatty acids, that may be beneficial for people with Parkinson's disease. Exercising may increase your muscle strength, flexibility and balance. Exercise can also improve your well-being and reduce depression or anxiety. Your doctor may suggest you work with a physical therapist to learn an exercise program that works for you. You may also try exercises such as walking, swimming, gardening, dancing, water aerobics or stretching. Parkinson's disease can disturb your sense of balance, making it difficult to walk with a normal gait. Exercise may improve your balance. These suggestions may also help: In the later stages of the … Continue reading

Stem Cell 100 – Powerful Rejuvenation and Anti-Aging …

Posted: Published on August 18th, 2016

Stem Cell 100 is formulated to rejuvenate your body and slow the aging process to help you feel and function more like a young person. This can help you feel better, look younger and improve your health. Most of the cells in your body lose function with age. Everyone has special cells called adult stem cells which are needed to rejuvenate damaged and old tissues, but adult stem cells themselves are also aging. Until now there was not much you could do about it. Stem Cell 100 rejuvenates adult stem cells and their micro-environments. Stem Cell 100+ is a more advanced and faster acting version of Stem Cell 100. Developed by experts in the anti-aging field, patent-pending Stem Cell 100 is the only supplement proven to double maximum lifespan of an animal model. No other product or therapy including caloric restriction even comes close. SK of Santa Fe, NM I have been using Stem Cell 100 for about one year. Initially I noticed a boost in energy level, which now remains steady-hence not noticed I have experienced no adverse effects from taking this product. I heartily recommend Stem Cell 100 and plan to continue on it. Leslie Stem Cell 100 … Continue reading

The New Jersey Biology Competency Test (NJBCT)

Posted: Published on August 17th, 2016

Other State Assessments The New Jersey Biology Competency Test (NJBCT) The New Jersey Biology Competency Test (NJBCT) is a state test given to students to measure whether they have gained the knowledge and skills identified in the Biology section of the Science Core Curriculum Content Standards (CCCS). The CCCS adopted by the State Board of Education, identify what students should know and be able to do at the end of various benchmark years. In May 2008, all New Jersey public high school students enrolled in a requisite Biology course were required to participate in the End of Course Biology Test, which replaced HSPA Science. In 2010, the End of Course Biology test was renamed New Jersey Biology Competency Test (NJBCT). For the NJBCT, all New Jersey public high school students, regardless of grade level, who are enrolled in a Biology course or content equivalent during the school year must take the test, regardless of prior testing exposure and experience. Further information about the NJBCT and questions and answers can be found in "Your Guide to the New Jersey Biology Competency Test, May 2015." Sample test items can also be found in the May 2015 New Jersey Biology Competency Test (NJBCT) … Continue reading

Stem Cell Therapy for Cardiac Repair | Circulation

Posted: Published on August 16th, 2016

Coronary heart disease and heart failure continue to be significant burdens to healthcare systems in the Western world. In the United States alone, there are 7.1 million survivors of myocardial infarction (MI) and 4.9 million people living with congestive heart failure (CHF).1 Despite recent advances in medical and device therapy for heart failure, the incidence, hospitalization, and mortality rates continue to rise. After receiving a diagnosis of CHF, 1 in 5 patients will be dead within 12 months.1 Therefore, any new treatment modality that benefits heart failure patients has the potential to result in a dramatic improvement in health outcomes and substantial cost savings for the community. The possibility of using stem cellbased therapies for people suffering an acute MI or living with CHF has captured the imagination of both the medical and popular communities. Since early reports in animal models >10 years ago,2,3 the stem cell field has made enormous advances in moving toward clinically applicable treatment options, and we now stand at the dawn of a new therapeutic era. An abundance of preclinical data demonstrate safety, feasibility, and efficacy, justifying the current entry into clinical trials of stem cell therapy in humans.48 This position, however, is extremely controversial, … Continue reading

Stem Cell Therapy for TBI | Study Eligibility …

Posted: Published on August 16th, 2016

A Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) occurs when a bump, blow, or jolt to the head causes injury to the brain. Falls, sports injuries, motor vehicle accidents, and violence are common causes of TBI. We are seeking individuals who have had Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) to participate in current and future research studies for the treatment of TBI. We are currently seeking participants in a clinical trial of modified stem cell therapy for TBI called STEMTRA (STEM cell therapy for TRAumatic brain injury). Interested participants will complete a questionnaire for a TBI research participant recruitment registry. The information in the registry will be used to identify potential participants for STEMTRA and future clinical research studies. Stem cells are cells that have the potential to develop into different types of cells within the body. Th STEMTRA Study is investigating whether adult bone-marrow-derived stem cells improve function after TBI. A clinical trial is a research study designed to assess the safety or efficacy of a treatment or intervention. A participant recruitment registry is a listing of people who are interested in participating in research studies. Read more: Stem Cell Therapy for TBI | Study Eligibility ... … Continue reading

Cerebral Palsy Treatment & Management: Approach …

Posted: Published on August 16th, 2016

Numerous medications, although often used off label for age and indication, may relieve the movement difficulties associated with cerebral palsy. These drugs target spasticity, dystonia, myoclonus, chorea, and athetosis. For example, baclofen, administered either orally or intrathecally, is often used for treating spasticity in these patients. AbobotulinumtoxinA (Dysport) is the first botulinum toxin to gain FDA approval for the treatment of lower limb spasticity in children aged 2-17 years. Approval was based on a randomized, multicenter, double-blind, placebo-controlled, international Phase III study in 235 pediatric patients (158 received abobotulinumtoxinA and 77 received placebo) aged 2 to 17 years with lower limb spasticity due to cerebral palsy causing dynamic equinus foot deformity. Patients treated with abobotulinumtoxinA showed statistically significant improvement in efficacy assessments (ie, mean change from baseline in Modified Ashworth scale [MAS] in ankle plantar flexor muscle tone and mean Physicians Global Assessment [PGA]) response to treatment score at Week 4 and Week 12.[38] OnabotulinuimtoxinA (Botox)may reduce spasticity for 3-6 months and may be considered for off-label use in children with cerebral palsy with spasticity in the lower extremities (gastrocnemius, in particular).[1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 39] This therapy can allow for improved range of motion, reduced deformity, improved response … Continue reading
