Grey's Anatomy Recap: Why Did Derek Really Come Back? And Who's Falling in Love?

Posted: Published on April 3rd, 2015

Not everyone is as thrilled as Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) about Derek's (Patrick Dempsey) return to Seattle on this week's Grey's Anatomy - but more importantly, the show delivered one of the best case-of-the-week plots in recent memory. The day starts out on a positive note for nearly all of the doctors: Meredith now counts herself among one of those "blessed" people who have everything they've ever wanted (i.e. a gorgeous husband, two great kids, an amazing job and an exhausting sex life), Dr. Webber (James Pickens Jr.) is entertaining a group of elementary school students who are on a field trip, Owen (Kevin McKidd) and Amelia (Caterina Scorsone) look like they're enjoying waking up next to each other naked, and Stephanie (Jerrika Hinton) is Tindering in the elevator. Derek tells Owen that he wants to come back full time after "tying up some loose ends" in D.C., but unfortunately he needs the approval of Amelia - who has not only been appointed to the head of neuro, but is all too familiar with Derek's competitive side. Later, Derek proposes that he and Owen go fishing together sometime. (Fingers crossed for another bromance episode!) Pilot Inspector: How does the first Grey's … Continue reading

Tonights Greys Anatomy season 11, episode 18, plans to show you. If you run a school in the Seattle area, and read any reports that come out of Grey Sloan Memorial, taking a field trip there would not be at the top of your to do list as an educator. Meredith and Derek took a wild journey through the story of their relationship this season, but in the end they landed on the same page. They can live apart from one another, but they certainly do not want to. Virtual autopsy table debuts at UCF med school

Posted: Published on April 3rd, 2015

Anatomy professor Andrew Payer may never get a real cadaver with a rare cerebrovascular disorder to show his students, but now he has a virtual cadaver displayed on a table-sized touch-screen surface to help do the job. On a recent afternoon, Payer, who runs the anatomy lab at the UCF College of Medicine, stood by his new virtual autopsy table and tapped a few options on the screen to begin removing layers of flesh and bone from the life-size digital cadaver, revealing what Moyamoya Disease, which means "puff of smoke" in Japanese, looks like in a patient. Made by the California-based company Anatomage, one of the few companies that make such systems, the table costs $70,000 or more and is mainly used as an educational tool. It is yet another sign that technology is becoming an integral part of learning and practicing medicine. Unlike a real body, the virtual cadaver can be taken apart and put back together. Students can also see what different diseases look like by scrolling through an extensive index of options. The system also helps introduce students early on to viewing and interpreting medical imaging. "It helps them better prepare for being doctors," Payer said. Students … Continue reading

'Grey's Anatomy' finale? Cast imaginations run wild

Posted: Published on April 3rd, 2015

The hospital shooting. The plane crash. The super storm. Greys Anatomy has never lacked on big events when it comes to season finales. But executive producer Shonda Rhimes has also been able to find the right balance of heart-racing, jaw-dropping season-enders with quiet hours, like Merediths marriage nearly dissolving over her tampering with Dereks Alzheimers trial or Sandra Ohs exit from the long-running ABC medical drama last season. Whats in store this year? Ive been pitching kidnapping all season, Jessica Capshaw tells EW. Maybe its Scandal rubbing off on me, but I want some high stakes that doesnt have to do with medical. However, thats just the actress spit-balling. In truth, when EW hit the set late last month, the cast was still in the dark about this years season-ender. But the consensus on set was that Greys should and possibly could be heading towards another big event this year. The big events are always fun to shoot, because big event means big stuff happens, Kevin McKidd says. The shooter episode was scary to watch, but it was really fun to shoot. Im hoping for something big and I think it might be something big. I dont know yet, but … Continue reading

Cases of the Week: A bank robbery sends multiple cops and one suspect into the ER with gunshot wounds during a school field trip. There is nothing like waking up the morning of a class trip. You know you dont have to go to classes, you get to see someplace new, learn a thing or two hands on, and somehow a bagged lunch tastes better that day. Meredith experiences a similar wave a happiness when she looks through her back door at her charming husband, two kids, and prepares to go off to a great job. When you see an excited child, you want to share their joy. But, as Meredith explains, when you see another adult counting their blessings, sometimes you want to punch them in the face. Greys Anatomy': 10 years, 10 memorable deaths

Posted: Published on April 3rd, 2015

Home Features Greys Anatomy': 10 years, 10 memorable deaths Not everyone makes it out of Greys Anatomy unscathed. We rank the top 10 deaths over 10 years on Greys Anatomy. Before they move on to Shonda Rhimes other network sensation, Scandal, the doctors and patients must exit the doors of Seattle Grace, or Grey Sloan Memorial, never to return. Unless, of course, a flashback demands it! Here is a ranking of the 10 most memorable departures the show has seen over 10 years and 11 seasons. The feisty red head from Mercy West survived the first round of cuts during the merger of Seattle Grace and Mercy West in season 5. Audiences did not have a lot of time with Reed, but her death was shocking nonetheless. It served as the first look at how merciless the loose gunman bent on finding Derek Shepherd truly was. Aside from a one night stand with Sloan and an unrequited crush on Karev, Charles Percy was the only one with eyes for the resident. Is this cheating? Meredith technically died and viewers watched every heartbreaking scene of Derek Shepherd crying in the hallway as Cristina paced behind closed doors. We wanted to throw … Continue reading
