Emergency personnel respond at Chemistry building Carson Wilson Editor-in-Chief Daily Toreador - Dept. of Student Media, Texas Tech University | UPDATE 4:33 p.m. Four people taken by EMS personnel from the Chemistry building are at University Medical Center and are "doing well and in satisfactory condition," Eric Finley, spokesperson for UMC said. He cannot confirm if they are Tech students. UPDATE 4:15 p.m. Four people were taken to the hospital with minor injuries following an explosion in the Chemistry building, Chris Cook, spokesperson of Texas Tech said. Classes are not cancelled in the Chemistry building and only the affected lab was evacuated, there is no word on if the building is damaged, Cook said. "I knew something was wrong and not even two minutes later people were rushing out of the room in their lab coats and there was a substance that had leaked all over the hall floor," Bailey Shephard a Texas Tech student tweeted at The DT. UCLA Researchers Receive Prestigious CIRM Tools and Technologies Award

Contact Information Available for logged-in reporters only Newswise Two scientists from the Eli and Edythe Broad Center of Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell Research at UCLA have received a California Institute of Regenerative Medicine (CIRM) Tools and Technology Award that will forward revolutionary stem cell medicine. The UCLA researchers were among only 20 scientists nationwide to receive the Tools and Technologies Award, the most of any institution represented. Recipients receiving awards for their respective projects included Dr. James Dunn, professor of bioengineering and surgery, for his research investigating skin-derived precursor stem cells for the treatment of enteric neuromuscular dysfunction, and Dr. Hanna Mikkola, associate professor of molecular, cell and developmental biology, for her work creating a suite of engineered human pluripotent stem cell lines to facilitate the generation of patient specific hematopoietic stem cells.
