(MENAFN - Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Lebanese and Kuwaiti epilepsy specialists began a conference in Beirut on Saturday to discuss means of addressing seizure cases. The specialists will be discussing the latest scientific studies and experiments regarding people who experienced seizures, as well as exchanging expertise over treated patients. Dr. Jassem Al-Hashel, chief neurologist at Ibn Sina Hospital in Kuwait, said he was pleased with the level of medical cooperation between Kuwait and Lebanon in general, and between the American University in Beirut (AUB) and the Epilepsy Unit in Kuwait in particular. Speaking to KUNA, Al-Hashel highlighted the importance of the conference towards the improvement of treatment methods of seizures. Dr. Waseem Nasruddin, chairman of the Lebanese Epilepsy Committee, told KUNA conferees would focus on repeated seizures which may lead to death in case they were treated immediately. ITV BELOVED ACTRESS: Geraldine McEwan as Miss Marple The family of longtime actress Geraldine McEwan says she has died following treatment for a stroke. She was 82. McEwan was known for many roles including playing the famous Agatha Christie detective Miss Marple in 12 TV episodes. Her two children said in a statement that she died on Friday after suffering a severe stroke at the end of October. She had been hospitalised extensively since then. McEwan worked for many years in theater, television and films, sharing the stage with Laurence Olivier, Albert Finney, and other top British stars. She won numerous awards, including a Bafta Best Actress prize for her 1989 performance in Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit. McEwan was born in Old Windsor, 30 kilometres west of London and made her stage debut at 14, moving into starring roles just four years later. She excelled at Shakespeare, playing major roles in Much Ado About Nothing and Hamlet, and directing one of the Bard's plays. At the heart of the "precision medicine" initiative, announced on Friday by President Barack Obama, is the creation of a pool of people - healthy and ill, men and women, old and young - who would be studied to learn how genetic variants affect health and disease. Officials hope genetic data from several hundred thousand participants in ongoing genetic studies would be used and other volunteers recruited to reach the 1 million total. "Precision medicine gives us one of the greatest opportunities for new medical breakthroughs we've ever seen," Obama said, promising that it would "lay a foundation for a new era of life-saving discoveries."
