Clippers seem to have chemistry thing down as season nears

Posted: Published on September 30th, 2014

Updated SEP 30, 2014 2:15p ET PLAYA VISTA, Calif. The Clippers were all there for Jamal Crawford's wedding in Seattle last summer. Even owner Steve Ballmer. When J.J. Redick became a father for the first time, the congratulatory wishes came in from his teammates. Matt Barnes' charity football event attracted the presence and help of his teammates. The Clippers are hoping that chemistry, bonding and those friendships will lead them to an NBA title this season. It's abundantly clear they like each other. "I think if you look at the really good teams from the 90s -- the Pistons, the Lakers -- those guys all stuck together five, six, seven, eight years," Crawford said. "So, you could identify with them. They became more than just teammates. They were really brothers and families. That's what we're building." The playful banter and good-natured teasing is evident as well. When Redick said his newborn son looked like "an alien from Prometheus," Barnes and Crawford laughed and shook their heads at the Clippers' media day. Redick then asked reporters if they'd seen Blake Griffin's abs in his recent "GQ Magazine" spread and he and Barnes had a good back-and-forth routine about that. Griffin, who … Continue reading

A-League’s Jets lack chemistry: coach

Posted: Published on September 30th, 2014

Newcastle coach Phil Stubbins admits his overhauled squad lacks chemistry, but is confident they'll find their spark in time for the A-League's opening round next month. A total of 12 players have left Newcastle since last season with nine new arrivals brought in over the last four months. Stubbins, himself new at the club having taken over from interim mentor Clayton Zane in May, says it will take time to establish some cohesion. The Jets have had several pre-season hit-outs, most recently a 0-0 draw to Central Coast on the weekend, and Stubbins admits the combinations haven't been quite right. "We seem to be playing where the chemistry isn't right and it's a different team we're putting on the pitch every game recently," he said on Tuesday. "As a consequence we take the first 45 minutes to find our feet, we address a few things at half time and then the second half is a more polished performance. "We've transitioned, we had a lot of change at the club in this pre-season. "But come round one I'm confident we will have addressed quite a few things we need to work on in terms of fluency and cohesion and we'll be … Continue reading

DEFINITION of 'Biotechnology' The use of living organisms to make products or run processes. Biotechnology is best known for its huge role in the field of medicine, and also finds application in other areas such as food and fuel. As biotechnology involves understanding how living organisms function at the molecular level, it combines a number of disciplines biology, physics, chemistry, mathematics, science and technology. Modern biotechnology continues to make very significant contributions to extending the human lifespan and improving the quality of life through numerous ways, including providing products and therapies to combat diseases, generating higher crop yields, and using biofuels to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The term biotechnology is believed to have been coined in 1919 by Hungarian engineer Karl Ereky. Also known as biotech. Biotechnology in its basic form has found application for thousands of years, when humans first learnt to produce bread, beer and wine using the natural process of fermentation. For centuries, the principles of biotechnology were restricted to agriculture harvesting better crops and improving yields by using the best seeds and breeding livestock. The field of biotechnology began to develop rapidly from the 19th century, with the discovery of microorganisms, Mendels study of genetics, and … Continue reading
