VIVIAN CAMPBELL To Miss Fall DEF LEPPARD Tour

Posted: Published on September 29th, 2014

"As many of you know, Ive been scheduled to start a stem cell transplant and as soon as I got home from tour I began the necessary tests and preparations. Ill be admitted to hospital soon for all the yucky bits, so in the meantime Im headed to Target to stock up on cozy pajamas, fresh underwear, and a sackful of car-porn. Unfortunately, this means that I wont be able to perform with the band on the upcoming NFL broadcast on September 28th, nor will I be able to do the shows scheduled for October/November. While I cant say that Im looking forward to the process ahead, Im very much looking forward to what I feel will be a most successful outcome. Next year will be very busy for DEF LEPPARD with a new album and a world tour, and frankly, I dont think they would sound as loud without me, so I have no intention of letting the team down! See you all (with hair!) in 2015." His fill-in for the DEF LEPPARD Fall tour is none other than TRIXTER guitarist Steve Brown, who has already been on standby during the band's recently completed Summer tour with KISS, which … Continue reading

Master Gardeners celebrate progress since 2004 medicine wheel garden

Posted: Published on September 29th, 2014

In 2004, the Central Missouri Master Gardeners embarked on their largest project up to that point, inspired by the commemoration of the 200th anniversary of the Lewis and Clark Corps of Discovery military expedition. Photo by Julie Smith The Master Gardeners have been involved with projects in North Jefferson City since after the floods of 1993. The demonstration garden area features numerous benches and various sections, including a conifer garden and covered pavilion. A memorial garden along with a meditation garden are in the works. They built a medicine wheel garden of native plants, straight from the adventurers journals. The North Jefferson City Demonstration Gardens continued to grow with the addition of new features, gardens, demonstrations and aesthetic settings. Ten years later, the master gardeners will celebrate their progress through the month of October. Free classes for the public will be held the first three Saturdays with a grand festival planned for the last Saturday of October. The volunteer-gardeners will host a fundraising event Oct. 9 to benefit the Parks Foundation and the garden will be lit for evening strolls Oct. 10-12. Brain Repair 'May Be Boosted By Curry Spice'

Posted: Published on September 29th, 2014

A spice commonly found in curries may boost the brain's ability to heal itself, according to a report in the journal Stem Cell Research and Therapy. The German study suggests a compound found in turmeric could encourage the growth of nerve cells thought to be part of the brain's repair kit. Scientists say this work, based in rats, may pave the way for future drugs for strokes and Alzheimer's disease. But they say more trials are needed to see whether this applies to humans. Spice injection Researchers from the Institute of Neuroscience and Medicine in Julich, Germany, studied the effects of aromatic-turmerone - a compound found naturally in turmeric. Rats were injected with the compound and their brains were then scanned. Particular parts of the brain, known to be involved in nerve cell growth, were seen to be more active after the aromatic-turmerone infusion. Scientists say the compound may encourage a proliferation of brain cells. In a separate part of the trial, researchers bathed rodent neural stem cells (NSCs) in different concentrations of aromatic-tumerone extract. Def Leppard's Vivian Campbell Having Stem-Cell Surgery Recap

Posted: Published on September 29th, 2014

Campbell is officially in remission for the second time and will be receiving the treatment in hopes that it will prevent the cancer from returning. Elliot told Las Vegas radio station KOMP 92.3's '92 Minutes of Hair With Mel' show (via Loudwire), "Vivian, for the second time, is now in remission. "The first time we were told he was in remission and he was, but it didn't take. It didn't stay; it came back. But this time, through clever management with his doctors, they were able to monitor him through the whole tour, so he could do the tour with KISS this summer." Elliot went on to say, "As we speak, he's getting ready to go in to have stem-cell surgery, which will hopefully get rid of this thing once and for all. So, up until Christmas, he's gonna be kind of out of action, because once they start on this, they have to keep him so locked down and away from germs and stuff. "I think anybody visiting him has to put on one of those nuclear suits. He'll be locked away and he'll be the boy in the bubble, but he's very confident that he can do this … Continue reading
