Advancements in OMIC Technologies Drive the Global Bioinformatics Market, According to New Report by Global Industry …

Posted: Published on August 11th, 2014

San Jose, California (PRWEB) August 11, 2014 Follow us on LinkedIn The need to create and maintain a database to store, analyze and interpret various types of biological data, including nucleic acid (DNA/RNA), amino acid sequences, protein genomic, protein structures and protein domains, is resulting in significant growth in bioinformatics. The concept of bioinformatics combines life sciences with informatics involving the use of computer or information technology in storing, retrieving and analysis of large scale data sets generated during "omics" experiments. Bioinformatics finds applications in drug discovery, genomics, molecular science, proteomics, transcriptomics, molecular phylogenetics, metabolomics and pharmacogenomics. In particular, bioinformatics enables the development of sequence databases and related tools for the analysis of large data sets generated during biomedical or life science research using ultra-high-throughput technologies and assays, such as gene expression microarrays, high-throughput sequencing technologies, imaging devices and proteomics platforms. The technology is gaining importance owing to its ability to accelerate clinical research by expediting the application of research findings to enable scientists to understand pathophysiology of diseases while identifying molecular targets for drug discovery and potential biomarkers. Data management tools based on bioinformatics, for instance, help simplify the task of analysing the biological diversity of a disease, thereby … Continue reading

Jason Merritt/Getty Images Geena Davis is going to be scrubbing in on "Grey's Anatomy." The Oscar winner has been cast in a "major guest arc" on the upcoming 11th season of the medical drama, her rep and ABC confirmed to E! News. Character and plot details are scarce, but reports say Davis, 58, will play a surgeon on the series -- perhaps not surprising in the wake of Dr. Cristina Yang's (Sandra Oh) departure from Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital at the end of last season. Davis starred in (and received an Emmy nomination for) the short-lived TV series "Commander in Chief," and also recently appeared in Lake Bell's indie film "In a World..." "Grey's Anatomy" returns to ABC in September. 2014 CBS Interactive Inc. All Rights Reserved. See the rest here: Geena Davis heading to TV on "Grey's Anatomy" … Continue reading

Suarez suffers brain injury in friendly victory

Posted: Published on August 11th, 2014

The midfielder was left unconscious following a first-half collision with team-mate Cristian Ansaldi, who was challenging Wolfsburg's Ivica Olic for an aerial ball. Suarez required lengthy treatment on the pitch before being replaced by Tiago, with Atletico later confirming details of the injury. "Mario Suarez suffers a traumatic brain injury," they tweeted."He's regained consciousness. He's being taken to the hospital for tests." Raul Garcia had already headed Atletico in front by the time Suarez was stretchered from the field, and added his second nine minutes after the interval. A Mario Mandzukic penalty made it three before Naldo reduced the deficit, but further goals from Koke and Hector put Atleti out of sight. Diego Simeone's men started well andMandzukic tested goalkeeper Diego Benaglio inside the opening minute as the Liga champions looked to end a run ofthree matches without a goal. And it was not long before they were in front, with Garcia rising well to power home a header from Gabi's corner in the 13th minute. Kevin De Bruyne started to cause problems in the Atleti penalty area, but the visitors had an even bigger issue to deal with when Suarez was felled in the 21st minute. Myla Gott continues battle to recover from brain injury

Recovery includes expensive care not covered by Medicaid Betty Buchanan, LNA, is pushing Myla Gott to do more each day to help in her recovery following a car accident in January 2009 that left her with a severe brain injury.Rich Beauchesne/rbeauchesne@seacoastonline.com NORTH HAMPTON Myla Gott continues to make monumental strides in her recovery from a traumatic brain injury, and the largest milestone came recently courtesy of her brand new motorcycle. No, it's not a real motorcycle. "Motorcycle" is the affectionate term Gott, 23, a resident of North Hampton, has given her new walker, which has allowed her to proudly walk independently for the first time since her 2009 car accident. The walker is even complete with a toy throttle Gott can use to blast the sound of a revving engine as she blows past her nurses and family, much to their delight. "It's awesome," said Jayne MacLean, an A&C Non-Emergency Medical Transportation company employee who has driven Gott to her treatments and medical appointments on and off for the last four years. "Her smile gives it back to you 100 percent." Gott suffered a diffuse axonal brain injury during a crash on Interstate 95 in Portsmouth five years ago. After … Continue reading
