Flipped Chemistry Launches Its Online Community

Posted: Published on July 18th, 2014

(PRWEB) July 17, 2014 Yesterday, Flipped Chemistry launched their online community, FlippedChemistry.com. Flipped Chemistry aims to serve chemistry educators who desire to flip their chemistry courses - a burgeoning trend in higher education. A flipped classroom inverts the traditional classroom model by moving the instructor lectures to videos viewed outside of class, and instead uses normal class time for personalized instructor attention and interactive group activities. Many chemistry professors report that the flipped learning model boosts student engagement and performance. A flipped, active-learning environment has enormous benefits for students, and many students prefer it, says Kevin Revell, Associate Professor of Chemistry at Murray State University, and founder of the Flipped Chemistry community. My hope is that this community will foster new partnerships, ideas, and shared resources to invigorate our college chemistry classrooms. Flipped Chemistry was founded by Kevin Revell after flipping his own chemistry courses at Murray State University. While speaking with other faculty, he discovered that many educators understand the benefits of a flipped classroom and desire to make the switch, but do not know how to get started. He recruited a group of chemistry professors from several US colleges and universities to discuss their experiences and help educators … Continue reading

Nitsche attended high school at the Luitpold Gymnasium in Munich and graduated in the spring of 1968. At first Nitsche enrolled in a university close to home, the Universitt Erlangen Nrnberg, about 100 miles to the north of Munich. He transferred to the Freie Universitt Berlin in the spring of 1969, bringing with him the interest in chemistry he had developed the previous semester. Nitsche completed his chemistry B.S. in 1976. Scholar examines chemistry of happiness at Ramadan Forum

Scholar examines chemistry of happiness at Ramadan Forum Staff Reporter / 18 July 2014 Egyptian scholar Dr Abdul Kafi says the greatness of Islam is that it encourages people to practise the ancient adage prevention is better than cure. Happiness is temporary and an approach that originates from the heart. This was affirmed by eminent Egyptian scholar Dr Sheikh Omar Abdul Kafi, who delivered a lecture on the Chemistry of Happiness on Monday night as part of the 13th edition of the Ramadan Forum. Unconditional faith in Almighty Allah formed the basis of the key messages and inspirational Islamic insights brought to light during the 12 multilingual lectures held during the forum. Dr Abdul Kafi asked the audience to define happiness, saying that such a question would generate a variety of answers. A patient will answer it by defining happiness as a moment of healing; the debtor will describe it as the moment when he is free from all the debts; and so on. There are many different perceptions of happiness. However, he said, the greatness of Islam is that it encourages people to practise the ancient adage prevention is better than cure. Happiness, as Islam teaches us, is temporary. … Continue reading
