‘Cats looking for chemistry

Troy Team chemistry was a major component in the Tri-City ValleyCats' run to a second New York-Penn League title in 2013. "I think the biggest thing for our team last season was our chemistry," pitcher Chris Munnelly said. "We had some goofballs on the team that kept the mood light when things got tough." With the 2014 season opener on Friday and many of the expected players on the roster having just arrived Thursday or not even at all yet, establishing team chemistry early on will be a difficult task. "It's tough," said pitcher Troy Scribner, one of five returning players from last season. "It depends on the person I guess. Usually the guys coming in are really easy going and easy to get to know. We'll make it easy on them, as easy as we can make it for them. Hopefully everything works out fine." Munnelly and Scribner made significant impacts in their time spent with the 'Cats last season. Scribner appeared in six regular-season games, finishing with a 1-2 record with a 5.12 ERA. He struck out 30 batters and walked seven in 191/3 innings. "He was key last year, especially when he was put in the rotation," … Continue reading

Chemistry is Everything: How Charles Barkley and Conan O’Brien Make Camera-Ready Friendship Work

Posted: Published on June 15th, 2014

NBA on TNT's Inside the NBA TNT Live television depends on a sense of chemistry between performers, on the feeling (whether real or feigned) that the people appearing on our screens enjoy spending time together. An entire segment of the television spectrum -- late-night shows, sketch-comedy programs, talk shows -- all depend on the camaraderie between fellow participants. Personality-driven television lives and dies on the illusion of intimacy blossoming between its performers. We all are familiar with the clanging, fake version of on-screen friendship encouraged by local news programs and the like. A recent "Inside Amy Schumer" sketch had Schumer and Josh Charles as news anchors forcing out yuks and tossing back and forth bad puns. The ex-football players trading painful banter most winter Sundays on Fox, CBS, and ESPN fit the same bill. (Do they practice their booming laughs before taping?) Meanwhile, the best sports show on television, ESPN's "Pardon the Interruption," depends on the cranky middle-aged sportswriter vibe of its hosts, Michael Wilbon and Tony Kornheiser. However, the average sports pre-game and post-game show is many things -- loud, aggressively boisterous, devoted to a tiresome faux bonhomie -- but rarely, if ever, is it actually amusing. The exception … Continue reading

Stem Cell Therapy || Rheumatoid Arthritis Treatment …

Posted: Published on June 15th, 2014

Rheumatoid Arthritis Currently, RA is treated with immune suppressive agents such as steroids, methothrexate, cyclosporine, gold, and more recently infliximab (Remicade). Despite inducing temporary improvement, these approaches possess long-term adverse effects due to non-specific inhibition of immune responses. Additionally, current treatments do not address the issue of damage that has already occurred to the joints or extra-articular tissues. Advancements in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) treatment protocols and introduction of targeted biological therapies have markedly improved patient outcomes, despite this, up to 50% of patients still fail to achieve a significant clinical response. Stem cell therapy has been demonstrated to induce profound healing activity in animals with various forms of arthritis. For example, the company Vet-Stem routinely utilizes stem cells in horses with various joint deformities to accelerate healing. Besides healing of damaged tissues, stem cells have the unique ability to modulate the immune system so as to shut off pathological responses while preserving ability to fight off disease. Stem cells and specifically, mesenchymal stem cells home to inflamed tissue and start producing anti-inflammatory agents. These mediators act locally and do not suppress the immune response of the patients whole body. Additionally, mesenchymal stem cells induce the production of T regulatory cells, … Continue reading
