Angharad was presented with the charitys Adult Courage Award (18-64) at a Gala bash in London. Angharad had a stroke in 2013, at the age of 20. She said: When I woke up one morning and struggled to get out of bed, I just put it down to tiredness. I never imagined it could be anything as serious as a stroke. My Mum, who is a practice nurse, realised I needed emergency treatment, and took me straight to hospital. I had a major stroke in the waiting room. Almost every aspect of my life changed overnight. I couldnt say simple words like please or thank you, I needed help with basic things like washing and moving around, and I was left with vision problems and difficulties with my memory. It was devastating, but I didnt want my stroke to rule my life. I went back to university six weeks after the stroke. Angharad graduated from Trinity St David University with a 2:1 in Primary Education. Read the original post: Young Carmarthenshire stroke survivor Angharad Lloyd-Thomas picks up … Continue reading

Parkland student will walk at graduation after years in wheelchair

Posted: Published on June 12th, 2014

In a wheelchair for years, Jared did physical therapy to help him walk again so he can walk for his diploma at Parkland's graduation. Jared Brown is a handsome, 6-foot-2-inch, Parkland High School senior who will walk across the stage at Stabler Arena on Monday night with a few hundred of his classmates to receive his diploma the reward for four years of hard work and a slate of straight A's. What will set the 17-year-old apart is the very act of walking. It's been a long time since Jared did it, at least in public. He has relied on a wheelchair since age 14, when a worsening of involuntary muscle movements from his cerebral palsy combined with the added weight and mass of an extraordinary growth spurt 8 inches in a year made walking virtually impossible. It's still not easy, by any means. Jared will cross the stage with a walker, modified with foam padding to protect his legs as he moves. The padding is decorated, naturally, in Parkland red and gray. "He said, 'I don't see what the big deal is because I'm just going to walk across the stage like the other kids,' " said Jared's mother, … Continue reading

Failed Drug Test Costs Sonnen Fight

Posted: Published on June 12th, 2014

UFC light heavyweight Chael Sonnen said Tuesday that a transition period after his testosterone-replacement therapy led to the drug-test failure that scratched him from next month's UFC 175 lineup. Sonnen, appearing on Fox Sports 1, was accompanied by UFC President Dana White, who appeared earlier on the America's Pregameshow. White was critical of the three-time UFC title challenger and the Nevada State Athletic Commission for not disclosing his post-TRT regimen and not preparing fighters for competition after TRT. "This has been bad since Day One. I wish the commission never let anybody use TRT, and when it went away, they didn't do a very good job of figuring out how to get these guys off it," White said of the controversial hormone therapy, which the NSAC and other commissions banned in February. "When you get off it, you don't just go cold turkey." Sonnen failed a drug test ordered by the NSAC, which last fall had given him a therapeutic-use exemption to use doctor-prescribed testosterone. During a random test given while Sonnen was in Las Vegas for a news conference for his July 5 fight vs. Vitor Belfort, he tested positive for anastrozole and clomiphene, a non-steroidal aromatase-inhibiting drug used … Continue reading

We could not have made this breakthrough without the funding and support of two very important people, Mr. John Malone of Liberty Media and Dr. Ed Bosarge, said Dr. Vincent Giampapa. Originally presented by Dr. Giampapa in Rome at the Vatican Stem For Life meeting in April 2013 and then again in Stockholm at the Swedish American Life Science Summit, his … Continue reading

IVF looks set to be offered in York 9:50am Friday 6th June 2014 in News By Kate Liptrot, Health Reporter Campaigners reacted with delight last night after health bosses voted yes to the idea of offering IVF treatment to York couples. The Vale of York Clinical Commissioning Group had been under fire for being the only place in the UK not to offer a single cycle of the fertility treatment to patients. But in a meeting of the governing body yesterday, members agreed in principle to make IVF available to couples in the Vale of York via a joint commissioning approach with NHS Scarborough and Ryedale CCG. A further announcement is due in two weeks. Karen Boardman, 34, from Heworth, who has been trying for a baby since she married her husband Pete three years ago, said last night: This is a fantastic step forward. I can only hope and encourage them to make the right final decision in two weeks - and allow so many couples in York to have a family. I was quite surprised. Its amazing. It did not think they were going to budge. Nicola Bates, Founder of IVFyes, the national patients campaign group, said: Its … Continue reading
