Fleetwood Mac Revives Chemistry In Studio: ‘We Get Chills,’ Says Christine McVie

Posted: Published on May 8th, 2014

It appears that Christine McVie will be returning to Fleetwood Mac to do more than play some old songs in concert. The group -- sans Stevie Nicks, who was busy with "some other commitments," according to Lindsey Buckingham -- has just finished a nearly two-month run in Studio D at the Village Recorder in Los Angeles, where Fleetwood Mac made 1979's "Tusk" album, working on a batch of new songs by McVie and Buckingham. "This has kind of been a project in slow motion, that's the only way I can put it," Buckingham tells Billboard. "We got in the studio not knowing what to expect, and the chemistry was just unbelievable... We got eight tracks very far along, like, 75 percent done. It just played out really organically in a way that seemed appropriate." Buckingham says the new songs came from ideas McVie brought into the band, and coupled with material he worked on previously with Mick Fleetwood and John McVie, the group has "about 14 or 15 things, and some other things we want to get to down the line" even before Nicks begins making contributions. "We're all very excited about it. Knowing me, I'm going to be pushing … Continue reading

Paul George addresses rumors about team chemistry

Posted: Published on May 8th, 2014

INDIANAPOLIS - With sporadic team chemistry on the floor, speculation has run rampant off the floor. Social media is abuzz with reasons for why the second half of the Pacers season has soured somewhat.Names like Roy Hibbert, Lance Stevenson, Paul George and George Hill have all surfaced in one way or another. Wednesday, though, Paul George said he'd had enough. George resorted to his Instagram feed to post a picture of himself, George Hill and Roy Hibbert fishing to say, "These rumors have got to stop. It's getting old now and all you that believe them are ignorant." "Just getting sick and tired of the media making up stories," George said after Wednesday's shoot around. "Just putting everything to bed. Everything to rest." When Pacers fan James Ash saw the Instagram post, he said, "They look like they're having a good time. They've got good chemistry. Ain't no fighting. It's just rumors." "I think it is a pretty good thing," added Glenn Gill, another Pacers fan. "I think there is nothing there. Just all rumors and I think it's a good thing they prove to everyone they really do get along." It was a topic on Grady and Big Joe … Continue reading

Professor’s ban on graduates thanking God reversed

Posted: Published on May 8th, 2014

Officials at East Carolina University are telling students to disregard instructions from a chemistry professor who told them they were prohibited from mentioning God during a departmental graduation ceremony. In an email obtained by Campus Reform, Assistant Professor Eli Hvastkovs told his students to prepare "family friendly" statements for the chemistry department's recognition event. He said the remarks should refrain from mentioning God. "I've had some submissions that needed to be edited. so [sic] here are some guidelines, Hvastkovs wrote. "1. You can't thank God. I'm sorry about this and I don't want to have to outline the reasons why." University officials told WNCT-TV the email was not authorized by the school and that the incident is being used to boost awareness of students' free speech rights. In a separate email to chemistry students this week, ECU Provost Dr. Marilyn Sheerer said that religious references "of any type" will not be restricted. "These statements can be your personal expressions and as such the University will only limit these expressions, as permitted by applicable First Amendment law, Sheerer said. In an interview with Campus Reform last week, Hvastkovs defended the e-mail, which he said was necessary because too many students recognized … Continue reading

Deaths follow transfer delays

Posted: Published on May 8th, 2014

David Tulloch. The patients who died, in June and July last year, were all transferring from Southland. Following the deaths, the board moved to a full-time interventional cardiology service. It meant hiring two additional interventional cardiologists; one started in January, and another last month. Locum cover had also supported the service since last July. Chief medical officer David Tulloch said the board did not know whether the three patients could have survived if a full-time service had been available in Dunedin. ''We do not know, with certainty, if outcomes would have been different for these individual patients had they been treated in Dunedin.'' Certainly, the quicker that patients undergo procedures the better, and the travel time to Christchurch is not ideal for supporting good outcomes.'' Transferring patients to Christchurch from areas other than Dunedin took too long. The delay involved was ''not optimal to support good patient outcomes [even with helicopters] and this is why we have now moved to full cover'', Dr Tulloch said in a written statement. A timeline of events provided to the Otago Daily Times shows cardiologists wrote to chief executive Carole Heatly in September 2012 about safety concerns. ''An incident occurred where there was no … Continue reading
