Posted: Published on June 15th, 2013

West Palm Beach, FL (PRWEB) June 15, 2013 High school dropouts tend to have more time on their hands. Many times, using and abusing drugs or alcohol is one way they get involved with other activities. Unfortunately, these dropouts suffer serious life ramifications for their choices. According to a report from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, youth in the 12th-grade age range (16-18 years old) are using illicit drugs at a higher rate than those who are in school (31.4 percent versus 15.3 percent). This age group also has a higher level of smokers than those in school (56.8 percent versus 22.4 percent). When adolescents dont have structure or guidance in their lives, they tend to lose focus and fall into trouble. Recovery Associates, through its Adolescent Track, can get these teens back on a safer, sober road. The Adolescent Track is filled with solid counselors and therapists who have many years of working in the addiction field behind their wisdom. Teens that have been off course in life can get back on and stop their substance abuse behavior. Pastors seek to end war on drugs by decriminalizing use

Posted: Published on June 15th, 2013

By Bob Smietana The Rev. Edwin Sanders says churches should help heal the sick, feed the hungry and set prisoners free. Even if they smoke pot. Sanders, pastor of Metropolitan Interdenominational Church in Nashville, is part of a group of clergy who want to end the war on drugs by decriminalizing drug use. They met this week in Nashville at American Baptist College. Sanders said the so-called war on drugs has failed for two reasons. First, he said, addiction to drugs is a disease, not a crime. "You don't criminalize and incarcerate people who have a disease," Sanders said. "You treat and care for them." Second, Sanders said, the laws on drug use aren't enforced fairly. A report from the ACLU of Tennessee released Thursday showed that black Tennesseans are arrested on marijuana possession charges four times as often as whites. About 45 percent of those arrested for marijuana-related crimes are black, even though blacks make up about 17 percent of the state's population. The war on drugs has led to mass incarceration of young black men, said the Rev. Forrest Harris, president of American Baptist College. "The war on drugs is a moral injustice," he said. Ethan Nadelmann of … Continue reading

Federal Government set to introduce short-term ban on synthetic drugs

Posted: Published on June 15th, 2013

Selling some synthetic drugs will be illegal around Australia, under a plan expected to be announced today by the Federal Government. Assistant Treasurer David Bradbury is expected to announce a nationwide ban on a list of synthetic drugs under consumer law for up to 120 days. The substances, which mimic the highs of their illegal counterparts, have been under the spotlight after Sydney teenager Henry Kwan jumped to his death whilst allegedly under the influence. The New South Wales Government last week declared its own 90-day ban on the sale of 19 synthetic drugs. New South Wales Consumer Affairs Minister Anthony Roberts says the nationwide interim ban is welcomed, but he wants it permanent. "What we've been able to achieve in New South Wales is 94 per cent compliance in under a week of retailers selling these products," he said. "We've got them off the shelves successfully, we need to keep them off the shelves. "That interim ban needs to become a permanent ban." Mr Roberts said a nationwide ban under consumer laws will cut online sales and means Customs can intercept the drugs at the boarder. "If we're able to restrict demand, we're able to restrict supply," he said. … Continue reading

19 synthetic drugs banned nationally

Posted: Published on June 15th, 2013

The federal government is imposing an interim national ban on 19 synthetic drugs after Sydney teenager Henry Kwan took an LSD-like drug and fell to his death. The ban will prohibit the sale and supply of the drugs for 120 days, giving state and territories time to update their legislation and outlaw synthetic drugs. "Synthetic drugs are dangerous substances that can kill and should not be available for sale," minister assisting for deregulation David Bradbury said. "The synthetic drugs market is fast-moving and suppliers have shown they are willing to change brand names and packaging to get around bans made under consumer laws." He called on the state and territory governments to conduct an urgent review of their drug laws to make sure that synthetic drugs "are not falling through the cracks". Synthetic drugs were banned in NSW earlier this month following the death of 17-year-old Henry Kwan, who plunged from a balcony thinking he could fly after taking a synthetic form of LSD bought on the internet. Henry was farewelled in a Sydney funeral on Saturday. AAP See the article here: 19 synthetic drugs banned nationally … Continue reading
