These are among new provisions introduced by the Health Ministry in a move to regulate the industry following a significant increase in the number of doctors engaging in this practice. FDA suspends Pluristem stem cell study

Posted: Published on June 4th, 2013

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has suspended a Phase II clinical trial by Pluristem Therapeutics Ltd. (Nasdaq:PSTI; DAX: PJT: PLTR) of its placental stem study for the treatment of intermittent claudication (calf muscle pain). The clinical hold was place after a patient suffered a serious allergic reaction which required hospitalization. Pluristem said that this was the first serious allergic event among the 74 patients enrolled in the company's clinical trials to date. It added, "This event occurred in a patient with multiple diseases which may have influenced the severity of the event. The patient was discharged from the hospital the following day, following the resolution of all her symptoms." The FDA will issue a letter within the next 30 days detailing a list of questions and requests for information from Pluristem. Pluristem chairman and CEO Zami Aberman said, "Once we receive the letter, we will work closely with the FDA to address all issues raised. We are committed to our strategy that our competitive technology advantage be involved in clinical programs for multiple indications." Men in Red: Higher Testosterone Levels, Study Finds

Posted: Published on June 4th, 2013

FRIDAY, May 31 (HealthDay News) -- Male athletes who choose to wear the color red in competition have higher levels of the male hormone testosterone than men who pick the color blue, a British study suggests. Men who wear red could be sending an unconscious signal about their competitiveness to their opponents, the researchers suggested in the study, which is to be published in an upcoming issue of the journal Psychological Science. "The research shows that there is something special about the color red in competition, and that it is associated with our underlying biological systems," study leader Daniel Farrelly, a psychological scientist at the University of Sunderland, said in a news release from the Association for Psychological Science. The researchers pointed out their findings may help explain why many high-profile athletes, such as golf great Tiger Woods, wear red clothing. In conducting the study, the researchers told 73 men they would be completing a competitive task and their performance would be posted. The men were asked to choose between a red or blue symbol to represent themselves in the competition. They also answered questionnaires to help determine why they may have chosen one color over the other. The researchers … Continue reading
