Boston, MA (PRWEB) May 23, 2013 Doctors Health Press, a division of Lombardi Publishing Corporation and publisher of various natural health newsletters, books, and reports, including the popular online Doctors Health Press e-Bulletin, is reporting on a new study finding that ginseng supplements may be an effective treatment for erectile dysfunction. As Doctors Health Press e-Bulletin (http://www.doctorshealthpress.com/health-articles/a-herbal-remedy-for-erectile-dysfunction) notes, ginseng is an herbal remedy thats been used to boost mens sexual health for thousands of years. As the article A Herbal Remedy for Erectile Dysfunction reports, in this recent study, researchers recruited 119 men with mild-to-moderate erectile dysfunction to participate in a randomized, placebo-controlled trial. The men were divided into two groups and received either four tablets of standardized Korean ginseng berry extract or placebo daily for eight weeks. A single tablet contained 350 milligrams of ginseng berry extract. The Doctors Health Press e-Bulletin article states that the research team then measured sexual function by using two standard tests: the International Index of Erectile Function and the Premature Ejaculation Diagnostic Tool (PEDT). These tests were performed at weeks four and eight. With Roberts’ backing, bill to reform pharmacy compounding heads to Senate floor

Posted: Published on May 23rd, 2013

A U.S. Senate committee on Wednesday passed bipartisan legislation that would fundamentally change how large-scale pharmacy compounding is practiced in this country. Also Wednesday, the Senates Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee issued a report showing that poor compounding practices have persisted even since last fall, when a meningitis outbreak linked to contaminated steroid injections killed 55 people and sickened about 700. Sen. Pat Roberts of Kansas urged senators to support the bill, noting that the report showed the status quo is unacceptable. Saying that the current law is satisfactory or preferable to anything we might do is nonsense, Roberts said. Fifty-five people have died. The compounding bill now goes to the Senate floor for consideration in June or July. The bill is the first piece of federal legislation to require stricter regulation of compounding since Kansas City pharmacist Robert Courtney pleaded guilty a decade ago, admitting that he had diluted thousands of doses of chemotherapy medication. The Kansas City Star first exposed concerns about the safety of compounded drugs in a 2002 series. Compounding is a traditional part of pharmacy practice in which pharmacists create customized medications from scratch, but without having to meet the same safety and quality … Continue reading

Maine deals with opiate dependency problem

Posted: Published on May 23rd, 2013

INDIAN ISLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- On Tuesday, Judith Josiah-Martin, Director of Multicultural Student life at the University of Maine, spoke to community members about the legacy of addiction, and the myths behind it. "We tend to think they're bad people, they're crazy people, they're just drug-seeking, abusing people that we are wasting our resources on," said Josiah-Martin. But Josiah-Martin says this is an illness, just like any other illness, and it needs to be treated. "It's something that disturbs, changes and alters how people function, how people think how people behave," said Josiah-Martin. Another myth behind addiction is that there's no life after recovery, which Josiah-Martin says is not true. She says that misconception arises because addicts stay anonymous through recovery, and the public only hears about them if they get arrested. "We don't tend to hear anything about people in recovery, the people who have gone on who have five, 10, 15, 20 years of recovery who are living productive lives, who run companies, who teach, who have gone on to full careers or have beautiful families," said Josiah-Martin. An example is Marissa Mitchell, whospoke publicly about her addiction for the first time. She said bullying is what … Continue reading

'More help' needed for New Zealand's 25,000 P users

Posted: Published on May 23rd, 2013

By Jessica Beresford Published: 3:32PM Thursday May 23, 2013 Source: ONE News Source: ONE News More help needs to be given to the 25,000 people in New Zealand who are still long-term P users, the Drug Foundation says. The latest Government report into tackling methamphetamine use in New Zealand was released today, which Prime Minister John Key said showed positive results. "When the Government began this plan in 2009, New Zealand had one of the highest prevalence rates of P use in the world, with 2.1% of the population using the drug," said Key. "The latest data shows this rate has more than halved to 0.9%. While this is positive, the reality is there are still around 25,000 longer-term, heavy users of the drug, who are locked in a cycle of dependence, causing misery and angst for them, their families and loved ones." NZ Drug Foundation executive director Ross Bell said that while the progress was a significant improvement, the focus now needed to be on ensuring the large group still using the drug received treatment. "What the last three years has shown us is that investing in addiction treatment and trying to sign post these people to get help … Continue reading
