Fatherhood leads to a drop in testosterone, study finds

Posted: Published on May 8th, 2013

Posted on: 5:17 pm, May 7, 2013, by Shaul Turner, updated on: 05:55pm, May 7, 2013 DENVER Fatherhood marks a wonderful time in a mans life. Yet its also a time when testosterone that most male of hormones takes a dive. Experts say the reason is because mens bodies evolved hormonal systems that helped them commit to their families once children were born. It also suggests that mens behavior can influence hormonal signals in their bodies, and not the other way around. The largest study of its kind looked at 600 men first then they were 21 and then five years later. It found fathers had more than double the amount of testosterone drop than childless men. Men who spent more than three hours a day caring for children had the lowest testosterone. The study is welcome news to moms. I think being at home is just as difficult and I think its important to have support, said Denver momJulie Boone. Proud father Andrew Southwell said the idea of a dip in testosterone doesnt bother him at all. Im pretty confident in my own skin, have my own business have two boys so theres going to be plenty of testosterone … Continue reading

BPA Linked with Lower Testosterone

Posted: Published on May 8th, 2013

Chronic exposure to the chemicalbisphenol A (BPA) may lower testosterone levels in men, a new study from China suggests. In the study, men who were exposed to BPA because they worked in a chemical plant for at least six months had lower levels of testosterone in their blood compared with those who worked in a tap water factory. Specifically, chemical plant workers had reduced levels of "free" testosterone, which is the form thought to have the greatest influence on the body. (Most testosterone in the body is not "free," but is bound to a protein.) The findings provide even more evidence that BPA may change men's sex hormone levels, said study researcher Dr. De-Kun Li, a senior research scientist at Kaiser Permanente's Division of Research in Oakland, Calif. Previous studies, also conducted on Chinese factory workers, have suggested that BPA may lower sperm counts as well as increase the risk of sexual dysfunction in men health effects that are controlled in part by sex hormones. BPA is similar to the female hormone estrogen, meaning that it could have effects on the human body. The effect of BPA on men may be more immediate and easier to detect than the effect … Continue reading

"Fountain of Youth" Pill SeroVital™-hgh Huge Draw at Annual Gynecology Meeting

Posted: Published on May 8th, 2013

NEW ORLEANS, May 8, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --Despite the fact that human growth hormone (hGH) is highly controversial, an hGH boosting product called SeroVital-hgh is causing a stir at The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists' (ACOG's) 61st Annual Clinical Meeting in New Orleans, Louisiana. Why would a group of Ob/Gyn doctors be interested in hGH? Because human growth hormone is no longer just for men. Now that women are discovering its rejuvenating benefits, hGH seems to be going mainstream. Everyone from soccer moms to Hollywood A-Listers have been visiting some of the most expensive clinics in the world for controversial hGH injections due to growth hormone's touted ability to reduce wrinkles, decrease body fat, increase lean muscle mass, boost energy, rev up sex drive, and make you look and feel decades not years, but DECADES younger. And it seems everyone's been talking about hGH. It's been featured on The Today Show, CNN, Fox News, The Dr. Oz Show, and in Vanity Fair and Shape. And although SeroVital-hgh itself has only been available for about six months, it's already broken records in Parade magazine, been featured in Shape, on Radar Online, and on New York Live, and been touted by makeup … Continue reading

Buying Testosterone Supplements Online Can Be Risky

Posted: Published on May 8th, 2013

By Randy Dotinga HealthDay Reporter TUESDAY, May 7 (HealthDay News) -- If you're a man suffering from low energy or libido, the drug industry is eager to help. So-called "Low T" -- low testosterone -- has become a common catch phrase in TV commercials, and sales of testosterone supplements are on the rise in the United States. But a new study suggests that many clinics aren't disclosing the risks of testosterone treatment on their websites. Researchers found that fewer than a third of 70 clinic websites mentioned the side effects of testosterone, although almost all touted potential benefits of treatment like improved sex drive and greater energy. Twenty-one percent, meanwhile, incorrectly denied that hormone treatment is linked to significant side effects. Study co-author Dr. Kevin McVary, chairman of urology at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine, criticized the clinics that failed to be open about the risks of testosterone treatment. "It's unprofessional, and it reeks of snake oil," he said. "People should beware of using the Internet for medical advice regarding testosterone." Testosterone, which is mainly produced in the testicles, is considered the male hormone (although it does occur in smaller quantities in women). Testosterone levels dip as men grow … Continue reading

Chicago, IL (PRWEB) May 08, 2013 The medication resource center DrugRisks.com is announcing new information on the site for patients taking the blood thinner Pradaxa. The maker of the drug recently updated label warnings to include the risk of a blood platelet disorder*. DrugRisks was created to improve the safety of patients taking popular prescription drugs by providing the latest warnings, recalls, studies and legal news. Visitors can see if others are experiencing similar side effects and decide if they need legal advice. Health experts have disagreed over whether Pradaxa has higher risks of internal bleeding than traditional anticoagulants. The FDA has stated the drug is as safe as warfarin**. However, the Institute for Safe Medication Practices recently ranked drugs like Pradaxa among the most dangerous, and warned that Pradaxa bleeding may be 5 times as likely to result in death than bleeding from warfarin or Coumadin***. The resource center has also added a study from the University of Illinois at Chicago suggesting the data used by the FDA may be flawed, and the risk for Pradaxa bleeding may be higher than expected****. Now, DrugRisks has learned that the maker of the drug, Boehringer Ingelheim, recently added a new Pradaxa … Continue reading

Research and Markets: The Worldwide Guide to Pricing & Reimbursement

Posted: Published on May 8th, 2013

DUBLIN--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Research and Markets (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/research/jg2cpl/the_worldwide) has announced the addition of the "The Worldwide Guide to Pricing & Reimbursement" report to their offering. Provides insight into pharmaceutical pricing and reimbursement systems around the world! The issues of pricing and reimbursement play an important role in determining the likely commercial success of a pharmaceutical product in the marketplace. Following marketing authorisation, the pharmaceutical industry must successfully navigate national regulatory systems to determine the price at which a product can be sold and whether or not it will be eligible for reimbursement by public or private health insurers. So how is pharmaceutical pricing established? There is no simple answer to this question. For other consumer goods, pricing may be as simple as the manufacturer setting a price at which their product can reasonably be sold in a particular market. In other words, a competitive price that is both affordable for the customer and allows the manufacturer to make a profit. For pharmaceutical companies, pricing is often far more complicated. Governments and health insurance providers around the world strive to contain costs while providing effective medicines for their patients. Their efforts to do so have resulted in national pricing policies that include various … Continue reading

âThe only way … was to send her to jail!â

Posted: Published on May 8th, 2013

He flipped over our dining room table, he was so upset. Violent rages are not uncommon when a friend or family member is in need of another hit to fuel their addiction. The mother, who said she had been battling cancer and her husband was disabled, were living on a subsistence income and also suffered theft from their debit cards while they slept. They were forced to call on the aid of relatives to keep power on at their home. I tried to get his daddy to call the law, but he never would, she said. I finally did. That night. This mothers horror story has a happy ending so far. Her son spent over four months in jail where he was able to kick his drug habit and has been sober since release. Its just that sort of tough love that is required to help short-circuit a cycle of drug dependency, Sheriff Ramsey Bennett told the group. Dont confuse supporting your loved one for enabling them to just continue their drug habit and not have to face the real consequences of their actions, warned the sheriff. Several in the crowd agreed. They say you cant help a drug addict … Continue reading
