Garda in Cork are to prepare a file for the DPP after arresting and questioning a man about a 70,000 drugs seizure in the city over the bank holiday weekend. Officers from the Cork City Divisional Drugs Squad arrested the 33-year-old man when they searched a house in Mahon on Corks southside and found a kilo of cocaine on the premises. The man was arrested at about 10pm on Friday under drugs trafficking legislation which allows garda hold suspect for up to seven days. He was brought to the Bridewell Garda station for questioning about the find and held over night and questioned all day Saturday before being released without charge at 6pm on Saturday. Meanwhile, the drugs have been sent to the State laboratory for analysis to establish its purity. Its the second significant drug seizure in Cork over the bank holiday weekend and follows the discovery of 20,000 worth of cannabis herb by garda also on Friday night. May 6, 2013, 3:05 p.m. Police have appealed for information on stolen prescription drugs after opioids and drug paraphernalia was uncovered during raids at two New England homes. Officers will take action against two men in Armidale and Inverell in relation to possession of oxycontin pills (commonly known as hillbilly heroin) they believe were stolen from an Armidale pharmacy. They say Friday's raids are part of a crackdown on what they believe to be a "widespread" prescription drug problem in the community. The break-in at the pharmacy happened eight days ago and, officers say oxycontin tablets, ranging from mid-to-high strength, were stolen from a safe. The number of tablets stolen was initially thought to be around 600 but police said a subsequent stocktake by the pharmacy revealed that 2000 tablets could have been stolen. Morphine pills also were among the items taken. Detectives began investigating the theft and their inquiries led them to an Armidale house and another in Inverell on Friday night. Police searched the homes and allege they found 24 pills at the Armidale house along with drug paraphernalia and 33 tablets at the Inverell house.
