Posted: Published on March 2nd, 2013

Joshua's Heart Story: Pediatric Heart Disease and the Promise of Stem Cell Advances The day before 9/11, just four months pregnant, Mary Goulart and her husband got devastating news from ultrasound results: their baby had several heart defects including a missing left ventricle. After birth, baby Joshua endured three open-heart surgeries and a massive stroke. Through years of various therapies and true determination, Joshua now 11 is doing remarkably well. In this video, Joshua's mom recounts his story to the CIRM Governing Board during a public seminar, Spotlight on Stem Cell Advances in Pediatric Heart Disease. Ms. Goulart tells the board she's very aware of the gift of life her son was given by modern medicine and that her family holds out hope for new advances in regenerative medicine because eventually Joshua will need a heart transplant unless other solutions are discovered. Stem Cell Advances in Pediatric Heart Disease: A Change of Heart | Deepak Srivastava One percent of live births have heart defects, the leading noninfectious cause of death in the 1st year. Using embryonic stem cell technology, Dr. Deepak Srivastava's lab has made many insights into understand the genetic networks that control heart development as well the genetic mutations that are involved in heart defects. With these findings in hand, Srivastava's lab is in a position to perform stem cell-based drug screening as well as bioengineering to develop treatments for heart disease and heart failure. Dr. Srivastava spoke about his work to the CIRM Governing Board during the public seminar "Spotlight on Stem Cell Advances in Pediatric Heart Disease". Dr. Srivastava, a CIRM grantee, is director of the Roddenberry Center for Stem Cell Biology and Medicine at The Gladstone Institutes and UCSF. Time to Play: DeadLock in Minecraft part 3 episode 1 I do apologize for the space in between the uploading of these videos. Let me know of you want longer videos and more frequently, I'll see what I can do. Oh yeah..PART 3: the story REALLY starts to get interesting now....Also a small side note: stupid things like "stem cell research.." when talking about plants is not us. That's just what we were given to read...I think the writer confused stems of plants with the stem of the brain. By: ZhivagoCinema … Continue reading

Exceptional growth factors for cartilage in osteoarthritis- wnts! http://www.stemcellsarthritistreatment.com Cartilage repair and growth requires multiple key factors. Among these are Wnts. Wnts are proteins involved in the development of the skeleton and control cartilage growth. However, Wnt, if control of its effects are lost, can lead to diseases characterized by either excess bone and cartilage growth or inadequate bone and cartilage growth. So the judicious application of growth factors when it comes to stem cell treatment for osteoarthritis must take this into account. http By: Nathan Wei … Continue reading
