Pharmacy Crash

Posted: Published on December 31st, 2012

WEBB CITY -- "I was thinking that somebody was breaking in," says David Hudson. When he received a call from his security company a little before 11PM Friday night, Hudson believed his store, Bruner Pharmacy in Webb City was being burglarized. "The number of law enforcement here concerned me as I was driving up," Hudson says. As he got closer, Hudson realized a truck had driven through a brick wall and into his pharmacy. Webb City police officers say it did not take long for them to respond. "One of our officers witnessed a vehicle hit a parked vehicle," says Cpl. Brad Brown with the Webb City Police Department. "And then he called over the radio, told us and we all came to the scene. Once we arrived, we noticed that the vehicle had crashed into Bruner Pharmacy as well. We started the investigation from that point." The driver of the vehicle's insurance will take care of the cost of the damage, but Hudson says it could take some time to fix the wall. "With the holidays I believe it should be difficult to get somebody over here, but it shouldn't be over a few weeks." Officers believe the driver … Continue reading

Prescription Fees Remain Low – Community Pharmacy in Linwood

Posted: Published on December 31st, 2012

31 December 2012 Prescription Fees Remain Low at Community Pharmacy in Linwood, ChCh Good news for customers of the Community Pharmacy in Linwood, Christchurch. They will be charged no more than $3 per prescription item despite prescription fees increasing around the country from tomorrow to $5 per item. Pharmacist Anne Tiller says she and her husband Joe opened the Community Pharmacy in Linwood two years ago with lower costs for over the counter medications and prescription fees sitting at $1.50 per item to help those on limited budgets. We have noticed a large number of patients coming from beyond the Linwood area because of the lower prescription fees and cheaper over the counter products, she says. This is the reason we set the pharmacy up, to enable and encourage access for those who can least afford it. Anne Tiller says the pharmacy has saved people in the community around $40,000 to $50,000 in prescription charges in the 2011-2012 year and that is very satisfying. Although the Christmas period can be an expensive time of year, Tiller adds that customers have continued to collect their prescription medication and its a trend she and her team see throughout the year. The fact … Continue reading

Rx relief® Grows to Become Largest Sole Running Pharmacy Recruitment Firm

Posted: Published on December 31st, 2012

Rx relief, a leading pharmacy recruiting and placement firm headquartered in Fresno, CA, now ranks as the largest sole running pharmacy recruitment and placement firm in the United States. Fresno, CA (PRWEB) December 31, 2012 "Over the last several years, Rx relief has grown at an astounding rate," says Carl Franklin, RPH, Executive Vice President, Rx relief. "Just this past year we have seen nearly 40% growth. This is a combination of growth in existing areas and newer markets including Arizona and Ohio." Unlike many other medical staffing and placement agencies that provide practitioners in a variety of disciplines, Rx relief only recruits pharmacy professionals. They recruit for both retail and clinical pharmacist positions as well as pharmacy technicians across the United States. "Our core focus in pharmacy is our biggest differentiator," says Franklin. "Our leadership team is comprised of experienced pharmacists that understand what our clients and pharmacists are looking for. We understand the difference between the retail and clinical sectors, and our clients appreciate that expertise. Our growth is a direct reflection of our focus and dedication to matching the right pharmacy professional in the right practice setting." In addition to strong growth throughout the year, Rx relief … Continue reading

Pharmacy role expanding to include substitution of cheaper generic drugs

Posted: Published on December 31st, 2012

By Caroline ODoherty Monday, December 31, 2012 The role of the main street pharmacy is broadening, with pharmacists now administering flu vaccinations, supplying the morning-after pill, and providing consultation rooms for medical checks. In the new year, a new law will also give pharmacists the job of deciding when they should substitute cheaper generic drugs for branded ones prescribed by GPs. It would be welcomed by the Irish Pharmaceutical Union which represents the profession if, as seems likely, pharmacists eventually take on more health screening and chronic disease management too. While their role has been expanding, so too has regulation of their profession. In late 2009 the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland came into being as the statutory pharmacy regulator. Its job is to register, regulate, inspect, discipline and assist the professional development of the 4,500 pharmacists and 550 pharmaceutical assistants who own, manage and work in the countrys 1,700 pharmacies. Its a 1.9bn a year business, with about 1.6m visits being made to pharmacies every week. In the three years since it was set up, the regulator has received 164 formal complaints about pharmacists a rate of one a week. Of those, 150 have so far been examined by the … Continue reading

Illinois Nano-Bio Node - BioE Seminar Series Oct. 11, 2012 - The role of cell geometry in stem cells "The role of cell geometry and adhesion ligand presentation in guiding stem cell differentiation" Kris Kilian, PhD Materials Science and Engineering, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign October 11, 2012 "Substrates that are designed to mimic the extracellular matrix are useful tools for studying cellular processes. Recently, we showed how micropatterning single mesenchymal stem cells can be used to reveal geometric cues that guide lineage specification. Shapes that promote a contractile cytoskeleton promote osteogenesis while shapes that promote a less organized cytoskeleton promote adipogenesis. In a separate study we found that the density and affinity of an immobilized cell adhesion ligand influences lineage specification. Surfaces presenting the high affinity cyclic-RGD peptide guide MSCs to express elevated levels of osteogenic markers. In contrast, surfaces presenting the lower affinity linear-RGD peptide promote expression of markers associated with myogenesis at high density and neurogenesis at low density of ligand. In both of these studies, the control of integrin-mediated adhesion and actomyosin contractility were found to guide specific differentiation programs. In this talk, I will present our efforts in the design of model systems that vary … Continue reading
