Wild goalie diagnosed with MS, will keep playing

Posted: Published on December 2nd, 2012

Josh Harding, 13-12-0-4 with a 2.62 GAA last season, has also battled hip and knee injuries that required surgery. Hannah Foslien/AP MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- Josh Harding didn't feel right. The Minnesota Wild goalie became dizzy during a workout on the ice about two months ago, and he started seeing big, black dots. The neck problem he had was much more than that. Doctors diagnosed him with multiple sclerosis after a series of tests, and he's been undergoing treatment since then for the disease, which attacks the body's immune system and affects the central nervous system. Symptoms can include problems with balance, vision and fatigue. But the 28-year-old Harding, who resumed on-ice workouts two weeks ago without trouble, has no plans to end or alter his career. He said his goal is to be ready if the NHL lockout ends soon. "I'm going to do my part over here, skating regularly, working out regularly, getting back into shape and hopefully be good to go for training camp," Harding said after an informal workout on Thursday with some of his Wild teammates and other NHL players at the University of Minnesota. They've been trying to stay sharp at the local rinks while … Continue reading

Study links relaxation method to reduced hot flashes

Posted: Published on December 2nd, 2012

NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - Although studies of the effects of relaxation techniques on menopause symptoms have yielded mixed results so far, a new report from Sweden comes down in favor of the approach as an alternative to hormone therapy. Postmenopausal women trained to relax before and during the onset of hot flashes cut the frequency of those events in half during the three-month trial, researchers say. Women in a comparison group that got no treatments experienced little change in their symptoms. "The results tell you that, yes, this seems to work," said Kim Innes of West Virginia University, who has studied mind-body therapies for menopause symptoms but was not involved in the new study. "This was a moderate-sized trial that yielded promising - although not definitive - findings regarding the efficacy of applied relaxation," she told Reuters Health. In a review of more than a dozen previous clinical trials involving mediation, yoga and Tai Chi therapies, Innes concluded that these techniques may hold promise for relieving menopause symptoms, but it's too soon to tell. In the years just before and after menopause, fluctuating hormone levels can generate a wide variety of symptoms, among the most bothersome are sudden flushing, … Continue reading

Technology to Cure Diseases or Make Them? – Video

Posted: Published on December 2nd, 2012

Technology to Cure Diseases or Make Them? Most people are not aware of how many different chemicals are running through their body each second of the day. CDC states more than 148 industrial chemicals lurk in the blood of the average American. A huge portion of these chemicals are due to technology! I mean however way you want to look at, a lot of the technology that we depend on each day are the cause of the chemicals. I'm talking about our cell phones, TVs, kindles, tablets, and even our automobiles... A lot of the things we don't need! Recently I heard that statistics that 1 in 100 kids have autism now, 1 in 60 in polluted areas. The amount of autistic people were definitely not around when our parents grew up. I think it's safe to say that a lot of these chemicals running through our blood is what's causing this disease or should I say abnormality. Currently the medical establishment does not refer to this as a disease. I just recently watched a documentary called China's dirty secrets, boy the video was it disturbing. We think we can buy a new smart phone, … Continue reading
