Pregnant Woman Drives Runs Over Husband for Not Voting Romney! Holly Solomon, a pregnant Arizona woman, was arrested Saturday after she allegedly ran over her husband with the family SUV when she learned that he did not vote in the presidential election, CBS affiliate KPHO reports. Solomon, 28, faces charges of domestic violence and aggravated assault after she pinned her 36-year-old husband between their Jeep SUV and a curb on a parking lot, said Jesse Sanger of the Gilbert Police Department. Sanger said Solomon argued with her husband over his lack of political involvement and that she believed her family would suffer under a second term of President Barack Obama, KPHO reported. Police said witnesses heard yelling and saw Solomon get behind the wheel and chase her husband through the parking lot. "At one point he went behind a light pole so the vehicle wouldn't strike him. He ended up leaving the light pole trying to run away to a different area," Sanger said. Medics said Solomon's husband was pinned underneath the vehicle. When officers asked her why she did it, she said she only wanted to scare him. Officers said they didn't believe Solomon was under … Continue reading

Drugs body says no to legalizing marijuana

Posted: Published on November 14th, 2012

By Leila B. Salaverria Philippine Daily Inquirer INQUIRER FILE PHOTO While more and more countries are moving to legalize medicinal or recreational marijuana, or at least decriminalize its personal use, the Dangerous Drugs Board said it will oppose any proposal in the Philippines to follow suit. DDB Undersecretary Edgar Galvante said there was no reason to support the legal, medical use of marijuana in the Philippines as the board, as well as the Department of Health, was not convinced of its benefits. Two American statesWashington and Coloradorecently voted in a referendum to legalize marijuana for recreational purposes. California leads 18 other states that have already approved the regulated use of marijuana for medicinal purposes. In many other countries in Europe and South America the trend has also been to decriminalized the use of small personal amounts of the herbal drug. But according to Galvante, the DDB and the DOH would oppose if ever there was a proposal to legalize marijuana. The DOH does not recognize the therapeutic value of marijuana, he added. Galvante made the statement at a hearing of the House Committee on Dangerous Drugs, where Paraaque Rep. Roilo Golez wondered aloud whether antidrug officials were likely to emulate … Continue reading

Drugs found in Fresno workplace shooting suspect

Posted: Published on November 14th, 2012

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Lawrence Jones turned the gun on himself last Tuesday after detectives say he shot four coworkers at Valley Protein in Central Fresno. Salvador Diaz and Manuel Verdin died after they were shot at close range. The coroner told Action News the autopsy report revealed the suspect, Lawrence Jones had some recreational drugs in his system. "We've received the preliminary autopsy results on Mr. Jones and they are negative for drugs of abuse, street drugs except for marijuana," Dr. David Hadden said. "And we cannot tell how much he took and when he took it, in terms of the marijuana." The coroner is now sending lab samples out for a more elaborate test, that will show any prescription drugs or other substances in his system. Police still do not have a motive for the workplace shooting. (Copyright 2012 KFSN-TV/DT. All Rights Reserved.) New strategies needed in drugs fight: Mexico, Central Americans

Posted: Published on November 14th, 2012

MEXICO CITY (Reuters) - Illegal drugs use globally is still rising despite a decades-long battle against organized crime, and producer and consumer nations need to come up with new strategies, Mexico and four Central American countries said on Monday. Latin Americans are increasingly skeptical about Washington's hard-line prohibitionist approach to drugs, particularly because the United States is a leading market for the narcotics. That was highlighted last week, when Colorado and Washington became the first U.S. states to legalize the possession and sale of marijuana for recreational use, in defiance of federal law. "Revising the international community's focus on drugs ... cannot be delayed," the leaders of Mexico, Costa Rica, Honduras, Belize and Guatemala said in a joint statement. "Consumption of these substances continues to rise on a global level." They called for strategies "to control the drugs market and prevent the trafficking of illegal substances continuing to cause high levels of crime and violence in the region". Outgoing Mexican President Felipe Calderon, who staked his presidency on battling drug cartels, said in September that a "less prohibitionist approach" should be studied. Calderon, whose presidency ends on December 1, has declined to wade deeper into a growing drug policy liberalization … Continue reading

Russian anti-drugs crusader under growing pressure

Posted: Published on November 14th, 2012

MOSCOW (AP) Russia's most outspoken and charismatic anti-drugs campaigner accused authorities on Tuesday of trying to close his rehabilitation center by falsely claiming it has abused patients. For more than a decade, businessman and art historian Yevgeny Roizman has been waging a crusade against drug pushers and corrupt police in the Ural Mountains city of Yekaterinburg amid a drug epidemic that has made Russia the world's largest heroin consumer. The center Roizman founded and partly funds is seen by many Russians as a model of community-driven rehab efforts, and his followers have helped police identify and arrest dozens of drug dealers. But Yekaterinburg officials have accused Roizman's team of isolating patients without their consent and using violence and forced labor as part of therapy. On Tuesday, a court in the town of Berezovsk near Yekaterinburg charged Roizman's deputy, Yevgeny Malenkin, with illegally imprisoning patients and issued an arrest warrant for him. Malenkin left Yekaterinburg earlier this week after police tried to question him, Roizman said, adding that the charges against him were initiated after police pressured former patients to file complaints. Roizman has accused police of using this tactic against his center before. He said police pressured former patients to … Continue reading

2nd Pharmacy Under Fire for Meningitis

Posted: Published on November 14th, 2012

Federal health inspectors found numerous potential sources of contamination, including leaky ceilings and insects, at a drug-making facility that has the same founders as the specialty pharmacy linked to a deadly meningitis outbreak. The Food and Drug Administration on Monday released the results of a monthlong inspection of Ameridose, a Westborough, Mass.-based company that makes injectable drugs. The agency's report, posted online, lists a host of problems at the plant, ranging from manufacturing to sterility to quality control. Inspectors said they found insects within 10 feet of a supposedly sterile area where drugs were manufactured. In another case, inspectors reported a bird flying into a room where drugs are stored. Elsewhere, the report cites leaks and cracks in the ceiling and walls of a clean room used to manufacture sterile drugs. The same room contained "thick residues that were orange, brown, and green" on equipment used for sterilization. FDA inspectors also said the company did not investigate at least 53 incidents of bacterial contamination that arose during testing of stock drug solution. "There is no documented evidence that your firm implemented permanent corrective actions to prevent these sterility events from recurring," investigators wrote. Ameridose agreed to shut down for inspection … Continue reading
