Outcome of right ventricular microaxial pump support in patients undergoing cardiac surgery | Scientific Reports – Nature.com

Posted: Published on April 12th, 2024

This study is the largest single center retrospective cohort in Europe with Impella-RP for patients with RVF after cardiac surgery. We evaluated which factors provided an approximation of right ventricular function in the postoperative period. Due to the lack of a consensus definition of RVF, and the fact that RVF mechanisms have not been well defined9, we evaluated liver function and assessed catecholamine variability as a noninvasive hemodynamic prediction metric Continue reading

Inter-atrial shunts may benefit some heart failure patients while harming others – EurekAlert

Posted: Published on April 12th, 2024

image: The numbers of wins, losses and ties for all pairs of patients at each level of the win ratio hierarchy are shown, as well as the method for calculation of the win ratio (number of wins in the shunt group divided by number of ties in the shunt group). The unadjusted win ratio was then adjusted for the numbers of pairs of patients examined before vs. Continue reading

Cardiac surgery: New total endoscopic surgical method for complex re-operations of the tricuspid valve – MedUni Wien

Posted: Published on April 12th, 2024

(Vienna, 08-04-2024) At the Department of Cardiac Surgery at University Hospital Vienna and MedUni Vienna, an innovative operation on the tricuspid valve, the inlet valve of the right ventricle, was performed for the first time in Austria, in which neither the sternum had to be opened nor the heart stopped. Around thirty years after the first operation, the tricuspid valve was completely replaced in a minimally invasive procedure in a patient who had already undergone cardiac surgery before. The total endoscopic method was further developed within the Christian Doppler Laboratory for Microinvasive Heart Surgery at MedUni Vienna for the re-operation of the tricuspid valve Continue reading
