Study Suggests Cancer Is Associated With Poor COVID-19 Outcomes – Cancer Therapy Advisor

Patients with cancer who contracted COVID-19 were more likely to present with aggressive COVID-19 disease and experience poor outcomes, according to data from a retrospective study presented at the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) Virtual Annual Meeting I 2020.1 The study was simultaneously published in the Annals of Oncology.2 Although patients with cancer are generally considered to be particularly vulnerable to COVID-19, the clinical characteristics of patients with cancer who contract the virus is unknown. The purpose of this study was to identify clinical characteristics of these patients and to determine if there are risk factors among this population that can predict more severe COVID-19 disease.
