In winter, the days are shorter and during this time we also get less sunlight throughout the day, due to which the condition of Seasonal Depression (Seasonal Affective Disorder) or 'Winter Blue' is created. People with SAD or depression are more likely to have this in their families. SAD cases are more frequent in women than men. Apart from this, it is more likely in the youth rather than the elderly. Reduced sunlight in winter can cause the seasonal affective disorder. Due to less sunlight, the biological clock of the body is affected and women start feeling the symptoms of depression.

It is important to know that ceratonin is a neurotransmitter, its low level of body effects on your mood and you may be a victim of SAD. Vitamin D plays the main role in the production of serotonin in the body, due to lack of vitamin D, the level of serotonin in the body falls. This makes you feel less energy and lethargic during the day. Sunlight stimulates the hypothalamus, the hypothalamus is the part of the brain that controls sleep, mood and appetite. So today we are going to share with you, let us know about the solution to avoid depression in winter.

Light Therapy: Since the 1980s, light therapy is considered a good treatment for SAD. Artificial illumination is provided to the patient to overcome this problem due to lack of sunlight. The patient gets relief from symptoms by sitting in front of the light box in the morning.

Psychotherapy: CBT or Cognitive Behavior Therapy is a type of psychotherapy that is highly beneficial in the treatment of SAD. Traditional CBT is used for SAD. It identifies a person's negative thinking or thoughts and encourages positive thinking in a technique called Behavior Activation.

Vitamin D: Lack of natural light can cause seasonal affective disorder, usually in the winter months. Sunlight is also necessary to make vitamin D in the body. Natural light increases the level of serotonin in the body. It is a chemical regulating mood.

Antidepressant: Antidepressant medications are given for the treatment of depression and sometimes in severe cases of SAD. If these medicines are started before the onset of symptoms in winter, the results can be improved. These should continue until the spring season begins.
