An unconscious man was rescued from a fire Friday morning in southeast Vancouver, according to the Vancouver Fire Department.

The man was found in the bedroom of an apartment at 11301 S.E. 10th St. and was treated for smoke inhalation at the scene before being released, the department said in a news release.

The fire started on the stovetop in the apartments kitchen and was extinguished before it spread to other units, according to the release and the departments public information officer.

Firefighters responded after a smoke detector went off. As the first unit was driving to the scene, the 911 center continued to receive reports of smoke in the area. The department didnt immediately release information on damages or the how the fire started.
